It's been four hundred years since the kingdom of Guardia's great victory
against the army of the Mystics and celebrations are under way. Unbeknownst to
the populace, a dark terror is slowly awakening deep inside the planet's core,
a monster of gigantic proportions that will destroy everything. A small
accident triggers a race through time to stop this unknown evil, drawing in
heroes from the past, present and future to fight together for the planets
survival. Only the art of magic can help them defeat the beast, but magic
hasn't existed in thousands of years...

The famous collaboration between members of Square and Enix spawned Chrono
Trigger, one of the most loved RPG's ever created. Coming in two incarnations;
one on the Snes and one on the Playstation, Chrono Trigger has also spawned a
spinoff and a sequel, Radical Dreamers and Chrono Cross respectively, and
rumours of a fourth game are rife, the name being Chrono Break.

Here is my guide on (practically) everything that is Chrono Trigger. Enjoy!

Listen up you mangy lot, this bit is important. You are free to use this FAQ
for personal reference but if you plagirize any sections, well... I'll have to
come up with something evil to do to you...

The only places allowed to host this FAQ are:

GameFAQS - http://www.gamefaqs.com
Eyes on Final Fantasy - http://www.eyesonff.com

If you see it anywhere else, please contact me at: spatfaqs@hotmail.co.uk

You can also contact me with any questions that pertain to Chrono Trigger that
AREN'T answered in this FAQ, or any corrections to mistakes I've made (this
does not include typographical errors; I'm not THAT anal retentive about my
work).

Also, do not bother to email me and ask whether you can host this FAQ on your
site, the answer is no. GameFAQs is the only place I particularly feel like
trusting, while sites that have to go soliciting for FAQs strike me as
desperate to get a reputation even a tenth of that GameFAQs has. So don't
bother, I won't even reply to your emails.

v1.50 - Changed my email address and updated the formatting. Again. Oh, and
        totally redid the bestiary.

v1.25 - Totally redid the ASCII title

v1.20 - Added a new question to the FAQ in response to a very informative
email I got from Fyreseel. Cheers for that, it's something I should
have put in, in the first place =P

v1.18 - Basically, I've added nothing to the FAQ, though I have gone some steps
towards prettifying it. Most of the tables have been redone, the
contents altered and the headers changed.

v1.15 - Eep! I added the Yodu De to the bestiary and removed all those goddamn
tbas from the bestiary section that I didn't get around to doing last
time. I didn't realise that some of the lines actually went over 80
characters! *sweatdrop* Oh, and I split a line in the walkthrough since
that was also over the 80 chara limit. Baka...

v1.10 - I added all the boring list stuff including weapons, armour, helmets,
accessories, items and a complete bestiary. I moved the techs into the
list section, added the Tesseract to the Time Periods section, added a
question about the "Entity" to the FAQ, and finally, I fiddled a bit
with the ASCII art. It still looks naff, but it looks naff in STYLE
now! Anyway, now my hand is cramping so I'll call it a day for now XD

v1.00 - The first version and near complete as it was, but hey, there's ALWAYS
        room for improvement!

<--[08a] The Millennial Fair (1000AD)--------------------------->

You start in Crono's bedroom, being woken up by his mother. Go downstairs and
talk to his mum and name Lucca. Then talk to her again to get your allowance,
200 gold. Next, go to the Mayor's Manor and raid the chests there to get a
Tonic and 100 gold. Also, in the upstairs room, talk to the man in the middle
twice to score 300 gold off of him. Geez, they just love giving money away,
don't they? It's also useful to talk to the people if this is your first time
playing since they teach you about all the important parts of playing the game.
If you go to the Mayor's Manor in Porre, southeast of Truce, you can get a
shelter from the bedroom upstairs. Talk to the Mayor and he'll give you 10 gold
if you dance like a chicken. Silly, pointless but mweh, I did it anyway, though
it did leave me feeling so dirty and used...

Once you've done that, head for the Millennial Fair. Run through the first
screen up to Leene's Bell on the second. Here, you should bump into Marle. When
you get up from the floor, talk to her and then pick up her pendant, and go
STRAIGHT back to her and give it back, rather than try to flog it to Melchior
(which is what I did). Now, from there, go left and get the cat to follow you.
Go to the far right of the screen, making sure the cat is with you and then
talk to the little girl who thanks you for returning her cat. Talk to Melchior
in the first screen and when he asks if you will try to talk Marle into selling
the pendant, say no. Now, you need to get 40 silver points any way you can and
then go to the Tent of Horrors. Play the 40-point game and receive a clone of
Crono, which will be very important later in the game. See the mini-games
section on how to do this easily.

Now, leave the fair and go to Guardia Forest and in the bottom right of the
screen you should see a little twinkling thing. Walk up to that and press A,
and you've got a Power Tab. Now, I recommend doing the fights to raise enough
money to buy the Lode Sword. It may take a while, but it makes Crono all that
much stronger and makes it easier for you at this stage.

When you're ready, talk to the girl sitting on the fountain at the Millennial
Fair and then go up to Lucca's sideshow. Before you get there, Marle will want
some candy. Just wait for her to get it and then continue upwards. When asked,
step up onto the left telepod and watch to see what unfolds. After Marle
disappears, step onto the left telepod again and travel through time.

<--[08b] The Queen Returns (600AD)------------------------------>

Make your way through the mountains until you get out, taking the Tonic and
Power Glove along the way. Go into the inn and talk to the two soldiers. When
Toma comes in, buy him a drink and he'll tell you where the Queen was last seen
before she disappeared, not that it matters anymore... Now go to Guardia Forest
and in the bottom right of the screen by the rock is another Power Tab. Once
through the forest, go to the castle. After the dialogue, go to the main
chamber and go up the right-hand set of stairs. Continue up to the top and talk
to Queen Leene/Marle, who to show just how grateful she is for being rescued,
goes and disappears... typical woman, always has to make a scene!

<--[08c] The Queen Is Gone (600AD)------------------------------>

Go downstairs and you should meet Lucca. She then joins the party. Go up the
left hand side of stairs in the main chamber and in the Kings chambers, you
should find some Bronze Mail. Make sure you've taken everything you can and
then leave Guardia Castle, heading towards the cathedral to the west. Walk up
to the middle of the platform and press A, and Lucca should find the Coral Pin.
Once the Naga-ettes are defeated, a frog, who by some bizarre twist of
circumstance happens to be called Frog, turns up. Trust me when I say you want
this guy in your party so when you get the choice, go with the frog.

Go up to the church organ and press A and a secret door should open up. Visit
the side rooms first, picking up all treasures you find. In the bottom-left
room, make sure to search the drawers to find the Naga-ette Bromide. When
you've got all the treasures, head up the central path.

Now, go through the side rooms and press the two switches. Return to the top
and go through the door and fight the Henches. When they're dead, press A
against the organ and return to the side rooms. Go round the back and a secret
door should have appeared. Walk through it and make your way up to the boss.

[%%%]BOSS: Yakra[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 920

When fighting Yakra, make sure to never attack it with a character that is near
him, or he will counter. Have Crono and Frog do X-Strike and have Lucca cast
Flame Line and Yakra should be easy. If you need to, have Frog use Slurp and
Lucca and Crono use Fire Whirl.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Once Yakra is defeated, open both of the chests, take all of the cool stuff
Frog's got equipped that you can stick on Crono, and then talk to Queen Leene.
Once back at the castle, Frog leaves your party. Head back to Truce Canyon and
use the gate.

<--[08d] We're Back! (1000AD)----------------------------------->

Lucca leaves your party here, but not to worry, she will return later. Now head
off to Guardia Castle and watch Crono get arrested. In the trial, it's
irrelevant if you are found guilty or not, but I'm a good little boy (Believe
that and you'll believe anything) so I prefer to be found innocent. There are
seven jurors and each one of their decisions depends upon your previous actions
in the game. The seven points are:

1. Admitting you started the whole mess (you bumped into her, not the other way
round. Despite what others might say, you CANNOT make her bump into you)
2. Returning the little girls cat
3. Not eating the mans lunch
4. Waiting for Marle when she tries to buy some candy
5. Checking if Marle is alright before picking up the pendant
6. Not trying to sell Marle's pendant to Melchior
7. Saying that her fortune didn't tempt you at all

What kind of lawyer is Pierre anyway? I mean, why didn't he comment on the fact
that Crono escorted Marle back! I mean, what kind of kidnap is that?! Guilty or
not guilty, you get thrown in the slammer for three days anyway. Cue some
hysterics from Marle as Crono gets dragged away.

<--[08e] The Trial (1000AD)------------------------------------->

Crono wakes up in a prison cell where there's a package, a cup and a save
point. Take the package and depending on your result in the trial, what's
inside it differs. (Don't ask me exactly what outcomes get you what; I always
get seven Not Guilty's) Now, here you have a choice of what to do. Escape or
wait for your "execution".

a) Escape

Rattle the cell door three times and you kinda annoy the guards, one of
whom decides to rough Crono up a bit. Thinking he's unconscious, the guard
turns his back on Crono upon which, he pulls out his sword and KO's the
stupid bugger. Now what kind of prison leaves an inmate with their weapon?
You just can't get the staff these days... Ok, one guard down and one to
go. Crono rushes out and you get to blat the guy. Ignore the second cell
in that room, you can't get in there just yet. Head out of the room and go
down the bottom right set of stairs and across the bridge. In the hallway,
there's a guard. If you're careful, you can sneak up on him and brain the
guy without having to fight him; just approach when he's not looking á la
Solid Snake. Remember this technique coz' it'll help you get plenty of Mid
    Tonics.

Open up the door and nab the contents of the four chests before returning
to the room with four staircases, or at least try. Instead comes this
beefy looking dude called Omnicrone. No worries, just hit him four or five
times and he runs off, muttering about not being paid enough, further
reinforcing my quibbles about the state of this prison.

Carry on through the door and across the bridge. Now, you don't have to
fight the Blue Shields, just walk directly between them and you're fine.
If you do want to fight them, wait until they change into their Yodu De
forms (the guy comes out from behind the shield) and then blat them. Up
the top-left stairs is a Decedent and nowt else so ignore that unless
you're one of those folks who obsess about killing everything you can.
Instead, go for the top right set of stairs and across the bridge where
Crono is waylaid by two more guards. Kill them and carry on across.

Now, enter Crono, stealth ninja! Sneak up on all three guards in this room
and search them for Mid Tonics after blatting them. Open up the door to
the far right and free Fritz from the guillotine, making sure to nab the
contents of the chest. Open up the door at the back and open that chest
before hightailing it outta there and to the third exit in the room.
Across the bridge... again. Ever notice how all of these bridges look
exactly the same? I guess the architect decided to go with symmetry
instead of flair; probably a wise choice.

Take the bottom-left stairs and nab the shelter. Leave the guy alone since
he's already dead. Instead, return and then take the top-left stairs and
enter the far-left cell and go through the hole in the wall. Clamber down
the outside of the tower to the entranceway. Open the chest and then pop
down the hole in the floor to find 1500 gold and a Lode Sword. If you were
smart, you've already got one of these but you can flog it for more money.
Return to where you dropped down and press A to climb back up. Return from
whence you came (the second four stair room) and take the top-right set of
stairs. Follow them up and take on the two guards. Once you've dispatched
them, go through the door upon which Lucca bursts in. Typical woman, too
    late to be any use.

Check the wardens body and find a fourth Mid Tonic but wait, it thinks
you've found five and thus gives you a Mid Ether. OK, there's a screw-up
but mweh, it's all good. Read the document and then save for the big
battle that's coming before leaving the prison complex. Run across the
bridge and voila, there's your boss.

b) Wait for the Execution

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Just wait and eventually the
three days will be up (one day = 20 seconds) and you're escorted to the
execution chamber. Just as you're about to snuff it, Lucca bursts in,
blowing the guards away. Roam around the prison nabbing as much as you can
(For locations, read part a. You're currently in the room behind where
Fritz is in the guillotine). Obviously, since you've got two people, this
is a lot easier than part a, but also less rewarding. Follow part a until
    you meet the boss.

[%%%]BOSS: Dragon Tank (Head, Grinder and Tank)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 600 (Head), 208 (Grinder), 266 (Tank)

As the manual in the warden's room said, the head rejuvenates the Grinder and
Tank so you've got to take that out first. Have Crono and Lucca just attack it
until it drops. Heal often though coz' the Grinder and Tank can do some meaty
damage. They've all got different attacks so take out the Grinder first and
then the Tank, though Fire Whirl will hit them both.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Once it's dust, run across the new human bridge and head straight down, going
for the exit. Just as you get there, the guards surround you but Marle saves
the day with yet another bout of histrionics. How on earth did the Chancellor
get there so fast? No human could have been that quick... When you're in
Guardia Forest, head for the clearing and then use the gate there. But where
will it take you?

<--[08f] Beyond the Ruins (2300AD)------------------------------>

Leave Bangor Dome and head south to Trann Dome. Buy the Autogun, Iron Mail and
Iron Helm from the guy there and then use the Enertron. Once you've done that,
leave Trann Dome and head north, past Bangor Dome, to Lab 16. Touch the rat
thingies and they'll steal either a Tonic, or if you've got less than five
Tonics, some money from you, so it's wise to avoid them. Head right along the
bottom and then up to get a Beserker. You can avoid most of the fights here but
it's worth it just to keep your characters levelling. Make sure you get the
Lode Bow for Marle and there is a third Lode Sword here which nets you 2000
gold when sold. You should end up leaving the first screen through an exit in
the top-right.

Now it gets a bit harder. The monsters here are pretty much immune to physical
damage so Flame Whirl is a godsend, especially against Shadow's since they
CANNOT be hit by. After leaving the screen, you should find yourself back out
in the wastelands. Go to Arris Dome and talk to Doan (the old man). Use the
Enertron here and then head down the ladder. Take the top-left ladder and then
make your way across the girders to the stock room. An important note is that
if you press X in the room just after the girders, you'll be attacked so equip
and heal yourself out on the girders for safety's sake.

[%%%]BOSS: Guardian, Bit (x2)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 1200 (Guardian), 200 (Bit)

I say boss but it's a walkover really. Take out the bits first with whatever
you've got and then beat the crap out of the Guardian. However, do not use
fire-based attacks against the Guardian so no Flame Toss or Fire Whirl. You can
use Slash and Cyclone but it's not really worth it. When the countdown reaches
zero, the bits are revived so take them out again and then polish off the
Guardian. If you're characters are strong enough, the bits should only be
revived once.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Head through into the back room, check the body and get the Mid Ether. Head out
back to the girders and chase down the rat. You can't afford to get caught up
on any of the corners or it'll get away. Once you've caught it, exit south and
then hold L and R while pressing A at the right-hand console, thus lifting up a
floor panel. Remember that combination, you can use it later on in Arris Dome.
Head through the now accessible doorway and head straight up to get a Mid
Ether. Go back to the entrance and take the steps to the left, following them
round to the other side of the room. Get to the doorway and take the steps at
the top. Follow them round and when you go down to the floor, do the same
again. Enter the doorway and you should find yourself inside a console room
where a rather important part of the plot is divulged. If you don't know what
to say here, I'll give you a bloody good clip around the ear!

Leave Arris Dome, making use of the Enertron before you leave and then head
into the Sewer Access. But wait, Proto Dome is through Lab 32. Why are we going
this way? Trust me, you'll want to get what's in here.

I'll tell you right now, it WILL be hard in here since you're not supposed to
go through here for a while, but it is perfectly possible to do so and I
believe it's worth the risk. In any fight here, take out the Nereids first and
then the Egders. Head right and get the 600 gold. Then go left across the
bridge and then down the stairs the frogs used.

Head left and read the note. Got the idea? Head right and avoid EVERYTHING!
Otherwise, you get two or three Nereids after your blood. Get past the
obstacles and up the stairs. You're almost done here, just a little bit more to
go. Skirt around the Egders to the left and then head upwards, pressing against
the wall to the right. You should pop through a short tunnel and come out by a
switch. Press it and then go back to the main thoroughfare. Head upwards and
then go round to where the door opened up. Go right and then up and you should
find what we've been searching for. A Rage Band. Holy mother of God is this
accessory sweet and so damned good at this early a stage of the game. It makes
getting that Lode Sword from Melchior seem like absolutely nothing. Go across
to face the boss of this small section.

[%%%]BOSS: Sir Krawlie[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 500

Have Crono and Marle attack it while Lucca casts Flame Toss. If Sir Krawlie
says, "I'll shred ya!" get ready for some pain. Whoever he attacks, he'll take
their health down to one so heal ‘em quick! Otherwise, he's rather easy.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Follow the path downwards and around, PAST the exit. Take the Bolt Sword
(Finally, a sword that's better than the Lode Sword!) and then flip the switch.
Cross the bridges to the exit back up to Arris Dome and Lab 32. You may want to
pop back into Arris Dome and use the Enertron again. When you've done that,
head into Lab 32. Go up to the strange vehicle and a whole bunch of Proto
robots should turn up. Not to worry, an even stranger guy turns up and calms
them down while introducing himself as Johnny. Now, just kick his arse in the
race, simple as that. Don't waste your turbos until the end of the race to make
sure you cross that line ahead of him. Oh, and keep bumping off the front of
him, that'll boost your speed up, not that it matters right now. I'm just a
git and like to cause him suffering!

If you want to know more about the racing, see the mini-games section at the
end.

Leave Lab 32 and head for Proto Dome. Fight the Buggers (no really, that's what
they're called) and then inspect the strange bulk at the top of the screen. It
turns out to be an inactive robot and Lucca gets to do her thing on it.

What a crappy theme tune... and trust Marle to give your new companion a crappy
name like Robo! Ever heard of creativity you dumb blonde?! Well... strawberry-
blonde. Anyway, now comes a choice. Who do you take with you; healer Marle or
pyromaniac Lucca? It's really up to you but I prefer to take Lucca with me
since Robo can heal as well. Once you've made your choice, leave Proto Dome and
head north to the Factory.

<--[08g] The Factory Ruins (2300AD)----------------------------->

Use the console and then kill the Acid. Don't bother using magic on any Acids
or Alkalines you find here unless they're in a massive group. Head up the now
accessible conveyer belt and take the right-hand lift down. Take the
bottom-left ladder down and go all the way along the platform to where the
Robin Bow is. Go back up the ladder and then take the bottom-right ones down.
Follow the path around and enter the little room, walking onto the conveyor
belt. As soon as you touch one of the robots on the manufacturing line, a big
crane will grab you and drop you on another conveyor belt. Get ready for a
whole bunch of fights in a row and remember to heal mid-fight since you can't
do so in-between them. Once you've done all three fights, exit downwards. Kill
the bugs and head up the ladder. It is actually possible to avoid the bugs,
it's just very hard to do. Of course, for someone who's clearly as talented as
I am, it poses no problem...

Run across the walkway and go right, getting the Mid Tonic. Enter the door on
that side and empty the chests before using the console. Once you do that, two
Proto 3s go running around the room, but you can avoid them if you so wish.
Leave the room and then take the left door. Empty the two chests then go into
the little control booth. Use it twice, inputting both crane control codes you
got from the console (XA and BB if you've already forgotten) to get rid of the
two red barrels. Exit the booth, the room and then take the ladder to your left
down. Head left and go through the door there. Nab the Bolt Sword and then use
the console to get the last defence lock code, Zabie. (XABY) Trace your steps
backwards through the room with the bugs in and step onto the conveyor belt.
Follow it to the first exit and take the Ether. Get back on the assembly line
and go into the small chamber, exiting through the door.

Take the lift up and then take the one on the other side by either killing the
Debuggers or walking around them, whichever you prefer. Take the door at the
top and then kill the two Alkalines and the Acid. You must kill them before the
console will work. Use the console and go down the hatch its just opened.
Follow the path along until you reach the room with the laser beams in. Get the
Hammer Arm and Titan Vest and then use the console, thus shutting down the
lasers.

Once you've dealt with the Acids and Alkalines that drop from the ceiling, you
can either take the newly opened hatch in the bottom-left corner of the room
down or the lift outside the room. Either way, follow the path upwards, get the
Plasma Gun and then enter the last defence lock code into the console. Once the
door opens, go in, pull the switch and sit back to watch Robo do his thing.
Naturally, all hell breaks loose and all the doors start to automatically
close. Guess what's coming next... RUN AWAY! Well, you can actually walk away
and make it just fine but that doesn't seem quite as dramatic does it? All
power in the factory is off so you have to make your way to the exit by foot.

[%%%]BOSS: R-Series (R-63Y, R-64Y, R-65Y, R-67Y, R-68Y, R-69Y)[%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 150 (Each)

Hey, isn't this nice? A family reunion for Robo! (I still hate that frickin'
name) And look, it's just like Christmas, they're beating the crap out of him!
Obviously, you just stand by and do nothing until they dispose of him.
Now you've got to take on six of Robo's brothers but that's no hassle. Fire
Whirl away to your hearts content... you did bring Lucca right? Otherwise this
fight is a hell of a lot tougher.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Once you've done creaming those guys, Crono and Lucca drag Robo off to Proto
Dome to fix him up. When Lucca is finished, Robo joins you full-time and all
four of you head through the gate, but where to?

<--[08h] The End of Time (The End of Time)---------------------->
You should see three pillars of light, one of which your party descends into.
Go through the gate (a wooden one this time) and talk to the old man by the
lamppost. Basically, he tells you you've short-circuited the gates by taking
too many people through it. You can only have three people in your party at a
time. That's kinda lame when you think about it coz' you could get everyone
through the gate, just in small batches. ABC go through, then C comes back with
the gate key, then CDE go through, E comes back and then EFG go through. That's
all seven through! Silly game designers...

When he's done, leave Robo behind and head for the pillars. The old man will
call out so talk to him again. Follow his instructions and you'll meet a
strange fellow by the name of Spekkio. He should be in the form of a Kilwala
(White with stubby legs, pointy ears and a silly face) and introduces himself
as the Master of War. Believe me when I say this dude really is. Just do what
he says and he gives Crono, Marle and Lucca the ability to use magic, which
paves the way for some kickarse techs to come. You don't need to take Robo in
to see him since Robo has no soul and thus can't use magic. You can fight him
if you want but he'll kick your arse at the moment.

Remember, he doesn't actually hurt you and you don't use any magic, but all
items used when fighting Spekkio stay used. Bring any new members of your party
to Spekkio to allow them to use magic and also fight him often. As you get
stronger, Spekkio changes form. With each form, you can get a different prize
for beating him so it's well worth trying to beat him. See the Spekkio section
for tactics and prizes.

Now, talk to the old man for a third time and then take the pillar of light
back to Proto Dome, 2300AD. Why? Coz' there's a Power Tab sitting just under
the gate! Now you want to use the pillar that goes to Medina Village, 1000AD.

<--[08i] The Village of Magic (1000AD)-------------------------->

Whew, you give those imps one hell of a surprise and they aren't best pleased
when you come bursting through their closet. I'm trying to hold back the
innuendos but trust me, they will break lose later... Anyway, leaving my filthy
mind WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY behind, leave the house and go into the Elders house.
Take the Magic Tab from the bedroom and the Speed Tab on the kitchen table.
Then, go to the Inn and the Market; whatever order you choose and kick some
Mystic arse. No real reason to it, it's just fun sticking it to those pompous
gits. Also, it gives you the chance to learn some kewl new dual techs like
Antipode. Even if you can afford to buy stuff from the Hench in the Market,
don't give him the satisfaction. However, at the inn, once you've won the
fight, the Hench gives you a fairly good price. Use it if you want and then
head southwest to Melchior's hut. Buy the Red Katana and Titan Armour before
going through the Heckran Cave to the north.

All the enemies in here pretty much HAVE to be defeated by magic. Anyway,
defeat the welcoming committee ("Death to the Mystics' enemies!" has such a
pleasant ring to it, don't you think?), and follow the path round, nabbing the
Ether along the way. Exit south and go across the plateau to the bottom
doorway. Take the Magic Scarf (I'd recommend equipping it on Crono since the
Rage Band is next to useless in here) and then go back to the plateau and go
left this time, taking the Mid Ether and Ether before exiting to the southwest.
Go left and up, all the way along the corridor, right and then pick your path
through the water. Use a shelter at the save point to replenish you magic and
head in to fight the boss.

[%%%]BOSS: Heckran[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 2100

Have Crono cast Lighting with Marle and Lucca casting Antipode. When the
Heckran says "Go ahead! Try and attack..." don't coz' he'll counter. Take this
opportunity to cast Aura Whirl and then wait, replenishing your magic if needs
be. When the status bar says "Brief counterattack break" batter him senseless.
That's pretty much all there is to this fight. Now we get to see a perfect
example of programmers desperately seeking to find somewhere to put in a plot
twist. Why oh why can't monsters die when they're dead instead of having a
famous last line first?
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

So, Lucca and Marle want to pop back to knock off Magus... paradox anyone? They
travel back and kill Magus, and thus Lavos isn't created. If Lavos isn't
created, when Crono and co. end up in 2,300AD, they don't see the video clip
and thus don't travel back in time to kill Magus. This means that Magus lives
and Lavos is created again... you'd have thought Lucca could have seen that
one!

Head upwards and jump into the whirlpool; it'll spit you out near Lucca's
house. (Hello? Oxygen deprivation?!) Pop in and go to Lara's room (through the
first door and up the stairs to the right) and talk to her to trigger Taban
entering. When he's gone, go to the front room and talk to him. He'll give you
a Taban Vest, which can only be equipped by Lucca. I'd take this opportunity to
pop in and see Crono's mother, sleep in his bed and then go to the market.
Fritz will give you ten Mid Ethers in thanks for saving his life during your
prison break. Now, go use the gate at the Millennial Fair. It'll take you to
the End of Time again. By now, you should be strong enough to beat Spekkio so
do so. Win or lose, take the very top pillar (two more should have been added
since your last visit) to Truce Canyon, 600AD.

<--[08j] The Hero Appears (600AD)------------------------------->

Go to Guardia Castle and talk to the Chancellor. Then go up to the Kings
chamber and talk to him. Leave the castle and head for Zenan Bridge. Talk to
the Knight Captain and then return to the Castle. Take the far-right stairs
down to the kitchen and talk to the Chef while nabbing the Ether. As you're
about to leave the castle, the Chef will call you and gives you some Jerky and
a Power Tab. Go back to the bridge again and give the Knight Captain the Jerky.
Talk to him a second time and say that you'll help him. You'll get a Gold Helm
in thanks and then get sent on your merry way. The army life for us now! Use
magic on the Deceaseds but leave Ozzie ‘til last. Hit him (not magic) and that
should end the fight. After the two fights against the Deceaseds, get ready for
the boss.

[%%%]BOSS: Zombor (Top and Bottom)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 960 (Top), 800 (Bottom)

Use Lightning and Fire against the bottom half and Ice against the top. Once
Zombor's legs are gone, have Crono attack the top half with Lucca healing with
Tonics and Mid Tonics or attacking. That's pretty much it except for heal often
coz' Zombor's "Doom, doom, doom, doom..." move is really nasty; about 90 damage
to everyone so heal immediately after.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Once Zombor is done and dusted, head to the Elders House in Dorino. There you
should find the Headman talking to Toma. Once they're done, talk to the Elder
and then go to the Dorino Inn and talk to everyone there; you should learn some
nifty info. Go to the residence and check the sparkling drawer and then talk to
the old man. You can swap the Naga-ette Bromide for a Magic Tab. On the way
south to Porre, pop into Fiona's Villa and get the stuff there. You'll find a
Power Tab in the market. In the Café, talk to Toma again and then the guy
hiding in the top-left corner. Finally, go to the Cursed Woods, north-west of
Porre. Head straight upwards, making sure to nab all that you find, and at the
top of the screen walk behind the green bush to go down a ladder into someone
or something's lair. Enter Frog. He whines a little bit and that's about it for
now. Leave the Cursed Woods and go to the Denadoro Mountains, east of Dorino
and north of Fiona's Villa.

<--[08k] Tata And The Frog (600AD)------------------------------>

AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGA! You HAVE to take Lucca with you for this section or
you're totally and utterly screwed. Capiché?

Take the 300 gold and head up to the next screen, but NOT by the ladder.
Underneath the leaves to the left of where you enter, you should find the
Mirage Hand. Return to the first screen and go up the ladder. As you do so,
Tata should come running down, quickly followed by a Goblin and then an Ogan.
As you should have learnt in the Dorino Inn, use a fire-based attack on the
hammer-wielding Ogan's and they become fairly easy to kill. I recommend Flame
Toss coz' it's so cheap. Once you've dispatched them, resume going up the
ladder. Take the exit immediately to your left and nab the Revive before
returning.

Head straight up and grab the 500 gold before crossing the rope bridge. Head
down and loop round, going up the rope ladder before exiting the second screen.
Take the Mid Ether from the first turning and another Revive all the way to the
right before climbing the ladder and taking the Gold Helm. Climb the next
ladder and just before the exit, head down to get a Mid Tonic. If you keep
moving, the Free Lancer won't hit you with any of the rocks he throws, but do
pause to get the Mid Tonic. Follow the path round, grabbing the 600 gold along
the way until you reach a plateau. Get ready for four fights in a row; none
difficult but together, they can wear your party down.

Once you've cleared that, it's time to go fall jumping. Take the Mid Tonic
first and then head to the bottom of the screen. Simply run off the left
waterfall and you should find a Silver Stud and a Silver Energy, both useful
accessories at this point in the game. Make your way back to where you were
and exit via the left, making sure to get the Mid Ether. Cross the bridge and
talk to the Kilwala four times to get a Magic Tab. Exit and save before taking
the Mid Ether and leaving that screen. If you move quick enough, you can open
the chest and climb up the ladder without getting hit by the Free Lancer or
with the Free Lancer waking up the Goblins. Enter the cave and prepare to have
one heck of a fight on your hands. Run straight towards the sword and...

[%%%]BOSS: Masa and Mune (Masa and Mune, Masa&Mune)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 1000 (Each), 3600 (Masa&Mune)

While they're separate, attack Masa (the one with the blue collar) coz' if you
hit Mune, they'll perform a dual counter. Also, since to beat them, only one
has to be KO'd, don't waste your attacks on both of them. I'd recommend having
Crono cast Lightning with Marle and Lucca casting Antipode, but to start, (and
ohmygod, is this the best tactic ever?) have Lucca cast Hypno Wave.

Once you've done that, it gets a hell of a lot harder since they merge into one
big, badass mofo. This time, have Crono physically attack Masa&Mune while Marle
and Lucca cast Antipode, occasionally switching to Crono and Marle casting Aura
Whirl and Lucca casting Fire. Don't bother trying to cast Lightning on it since
Masa&Mune's lightning resistance is very high. Again, remember what they said
in the Dorino Inn? Crono's Slash attack dissipates Energywhirls so once
Masa&Mune starts storing electrical energy, hit it with one. The key to this
fight is healing, and healing QUICKLY. Get that right and this fight's a
doddle. And your reward? A broken blade... just great.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Go to Tata's House in Porre to get the Hero Medal and then go to the Cursed
Woods again. Talk to grumpy boy and he'll walk away from you. Open the chest he
was blocking access to and you'll find the hilt of the Masamune. Go to
Melchior's Hut, 1000AD, and he'll tell you that he needs some Dreamstone to fix
the Masamune, but none has been found in years. You could even say it was
65,001,000 years since any was last seen... Return to the End of Time and put
Robo in your party at the expense of Marle before taking the pillar to the
Mystic Mountains, 65,000,000BC.

<--[08l] The Rare Red Rock (65,000,000BC)----------------------->

You did bring Robo right? Good, his Laser Spin attack comes in handy here,
obliterating everything on screen. Luckily, you get some assistance (not that
you really need it) from a rather exotically dressed woman. RAWR! She
introduces herself *ahem* to Crono and makes some comments about the rest of
your party. ("What you say?" "Someone set us up the bomb!") Before I get too
distracted by the pleasures of All Your Base, follow her along the canyon,
kicking the shinola out of anything that crosses your path, though I'd
recommend taking on the four Runners before taking on the Kilwala coz' they'll
gang up on you otherwise. Since they're dinosaurs and thus have thick skins,
weapons aren't all that useful against them so stick to magic.

Once you're through there, head straight for the Chiefs Hut where you find
Ayla. Cue the Prehistoric party scene, as you do naturally... Basically, just
keep talking to all of your party and Ayla again and again until she challenges
you to a duel. Pick your soup bowl carefully, it may be the last thing you do!
Just like the soda guzzling game at the Millennial Fair, hit the A button
repeatedly as fast as you can to get the Dreamstone from Ayla. Well, when I say
as fast as you can, you don't have to really. It's a hell of a lot easier than
the Millennial Fair version but mweh.

Anyway, you awake the next day to find all of your stuff gone and footprints on
the ground everywhere. Wake Ayla up and then choose who gets to go with you.
Both Ayla and Crono are strong fighters so I'd recommend a magician, preferably
Lucca since she's more powerful offensively and Ayla can heal. Now, you can
either carry on with the game straight off or go to the Hunting Range (north of
Ioka Village) to get lots of tech and experience points as well as trading
material for the shop. Personally, I like to go in fully geared up so off to
the Hunting Range!

When it starts raining, you want to be in one of three places: the northeast or
northwest corners on the floor or the southeast corner on the trees. A strange
looking blue beast should come out and you can fight it to get some cool stuff.
You may have seen one of these before in the Cursed Woods; they're really good
for Tech Points and this particular one also gives you three each of all of the
trading items. Also, you should get a Third Eye the first time you beat it.
Once you've got enough trading items, head to the top-right hut in Ioka Village
and make sure to get the Ruby Vests. They'll come in handy later. The trade
list is as follows:

» Petal + Fang = Ruby Gun
» Petal + Horn = Sage Bow
» Petal + Feather = Stone Arm
» Fang + Horn = Flint Edge
» Fang + Feather = Ruby Vest
» Horn + Feather = Rock Helm

Once you're ready, head for the Forest Maze.

<--[08m] Footsteps! Follow! (65,000,000BC)---------------------->

Talk to Kino and hear his sob story before following the footsteps around the
maze. That's pretty much all you need to know about here, just keep a sharp
lookout for chests; they've got straw tops on. You should find three Mid
Tonics, two Revives, two Mid Ethers, a Shelter and a Heal in there. Once you've
left, make a beeline for the Reptite Lair. Again, this area is fairly simple
and you can avoid most fights here if you so wish to. I have to admit, I
normally just skirt it if I can, but you can get some really good stuff if
you've enough patience.

You see those blue dudes called Evilweevils? They dig holes in the floor for
you which you can jump down. Basically, there are six different routes through
but they all lead to the same place: a room with four Reptites running around
like headless chickens. You can open the chests here from the side and/or back
to avoid getting into a big fight if you want. In the corridor with the
Shitakes and Winged Apes, the first door leads you back to the entrance again
so you can go through the other routes and nab everything. An important note is
that for Megasaurs, and any other similar dinosaurs you may meet later,
lightning attacks will shock it, making it far more vulnerable to physical
attacks. But be warned, the Megasaurs and family can release this energy back
at you.

When you've done that, carry straight on up.

[%%%]BOSS: Nizbel[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4200

Regardless of what you say to Azala, you're gonna get in a fight. You can treat
Nizbel like a Megasaur; lightning makes him more vulnerable to physical
attacks. Then have Ayla and Crono perform Drill Kick while the third character
heals the rest. Nizbel is a walkover really.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

So, now we've got a blacksmith, a blade, a hilt and some Dreamstone. All the
ingredients for a Masamune pie! Get your arse over to Melchior's Hut in 1000AD
to witness history in the making.

<--[08n] The Masamune! (600AD)---------------------------------->
When you talk to Melchior, he'll mystically notice you've got some Dreamstone
(X-ray vision maybe?) and then watch the process as him, and either Lucca or
Robo, forge the sword in Melchior's basement... you'd have thought they'd have
done it somewhere a bit more dramatic really, don't you? Once Melchior's job is
done, pay a quick visit to Taban to get the Taban Helmet and then haul ass to
the Cursed Woods, 600AD, to see if Frog will join your quest to defeat Magus
and stop the ascension of Lavos!

Hero Medal. Check! Masamune. Check! Strange looking guy with a frog in the
throat and a bee in his bonnet. Check! Melodramatic angst scene. Check! As if
there was any doubt, Frog joins you full time now. But who to take with him and
Crono? Well, Magus' Castle requires you to be good at magic AND since Frog is
naturally a water elemental, that leaves Lucca. She's your gal for this mission.

First, take Frog to the End of Time and talk to Spekkio so he can use magic and
then go to the Magic Cave, east of Fiona's Villa. Cue the same flashback scene
with a few added scenes and then Frog kicking some arse, broadsword style
complete with Frog's funky theme tune! Now you have the Masamune equipped so
add the Hero Medal to that list and get ready to kick some serious arse.

The Magic Cave is yet another incredibly simple area. Use force against the
Vamps and magic against the Gremlins. ‘Nuff said. Make sure to examine the
corpse at the exit though.

<--[08o] Magus' Castle------------------------------------------>

In Magus' Castle, go up both wings and return to the adjoining staircase room.
A Save Point should have appeared. Step on it and you get a visit from Ozzie
again but ignore what he says, you hardly have to fight anything in Magus'
castle, let alone 100 monsters. Now, go up the right hand set of stairs,
getting the chests if you so wish. When you reach the end room, Flea? will
appear. Now, attack it with Frog only and when it's defeated, it'll cast MP
Buster on Frog and the real Flea will turn up on the scene.

[%%%]BOSS: Flea[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4120

Basically, just hammer Flea with all you've got; she's not that difficult.
Unfortunately though, she has a predilection for casting Chaos on your party,
which is a right royal pain in the arse. Have Crono and Lucca cast Fire Sword
while Frog gets to show off his swordsmanship. If you want, use a Mid Ether on
Frog and get him to use Slurp every now and then but you can just as easily use
Mid Tonics. Once she's done and dusted, take the Magic Tab she drops.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Now, return to the main staircase and take the left exit. Again, follow it to
the end room where you'll find Slash.

[%%%]BOSS: Slash[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 5200

Slash attacks in two phases, firstly without the sword and then with it. At
first, conserve magic by just beating seven shades of shinola out of him. When
he takes the sword, it's time to start singing to a different tune. Just weigh
him down with the strongest physical techs you've got but don't use elemental
spells since they have little to no effect on Slash. Use Frog to heal the
others or just to whack Slash. When he's near death, he'll start to counter
every physical attack so switch to magic. Make sure to take the Slasher since
it's far better than anything you should have at the moment.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Return to the central staircase and step on the save point. It should take you
to a long corridor. Run up it, beating the hell out of anything that gets in
your way until you reach Ozzie. Talk to him and he runs off again. Make sure
you take the Mist Robe before leaving. In the next room, just time your runs so
that the Axe blades never hit you; it's fairly simple. Grab the Dark Mail and
Doomfinger along the way. Now, the only way to avoid the Roly's is too climb
down a ladder as they go overhead. You can avoid every fight in this room
easily. Now, you should be in a u-bend room. Areas of the floor are traps which
cave in when you walk on them. Personally, I actually make sure I fall in them
since you can really rack up the tech points in the pit. Each time you fall
down, there will be four save points. One of them is a teleport, one is an
actual save point and the other two are monsters. The pattern is this:

1) Monsters: Top and bottom. Save point: Left. Teleport: Right.
2) Monsters: Left and right. Save Point: Top. Teleport: Bottom.
3) Monsters: Top and bottom. Save point: Right. Teleport: Left.
4) Monsters: Left and right. Save point: Bottom. Teleport: Top.
5) Monsters: Top and bottom. Save point: Left. Teleport: Right.
6) Monsters: Left and Right. Save Point: Top. Teleport: Bottom.

Once you've done that, you should hit another side-on room. Same principal as
last time except you HAVE to fight the Outlaws so try to do that when there are
no other opponents on screen or they'll use counters that are pretty effective.
Next, there's a room with several holes in the floor with winches going down
them. Just run straight up, fighting everything you meet until you reach Ozzie.
Take the speed belt then follow Ozzie up the stairs. In this room, you can
avoid all of the fights by running around the outside of the statues. However,
you really want to be learning as many spells as you can for the upcoming fight
against Magus. The choice is yours. Take the revive and get ready for the
showdown against Ozzie.

[%%%]BOSS: Ozzie[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 1000

Actually, this fight is just plain ridiculous. Do not attack Ozzie but hit the
winch mechanisms around him. That's all there is to this fight. Two save points
should appear; the one on the right is real while the left-hand one is a
teleport. Save and use a shelter before getting ready to open a can of whoop-
ass on Magus.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

You should arrive on a staircase. Just run straight down and you don't have to
fight any of the Vamps. Then, just keep walking up until you find...

[%%%]BOSS: Magus[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6666

If Frog hasn't learnt Heal by now, you're in a lot of trouble. You HAVE to have
a healer here but you also need three different types of magic and Robo isn't
really all that useful in this fight. Have Frog hit Magus with the Masamune to
decrease his Magic Defence. The key to this fight is being very quick healing
and casting attack spells. Whatever he changes his barrier to, use a spell of
that type against him. If you have any level two element spells, I'd recommend
not using them as they're a waste of magic but do use double techs if you can.
If he changes his barrier type to one you don't have just heal and have Frog
attack him. When you get Magus down to 3333 health, he'll drop his barriers.
Hit him with everything you've got and make sure you're at maximum health since
he's casting Dark Matter, which hurts a hell of a lot!
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

When you defeat Magus, all hell breaks loose with the revelation that he didn't
create Lavos, merely summoned him. A giant vortex opens and you're sucked
into...

<--[08p] Forward to the Past (65,000,000BC)--------------------->

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! Oh wait, it was only a
nightmare; I didn't think she'd ever stop twittering on and on and on...

You wake up in Ayla's hut. Now, the Trader has new items so get whatever you
need from him. The list is as follows:

» Petal + Fang = Dream Gun
» Petal + Horn = Dream Bow
» Petal + Feather = Magma Hand
» Fang + Horn = Aeon Blade
» Fang + Feather and Horn + Feather = same items as last time.

Now, you can either go to the Hunting Range to get some more tech points or
find Ayla at the Laruba Ruins, northwest of Ioka Village. Again, I recommend
learning some more spells, especially Lightning 2 for Crono, Cure for Marle and
Heal Beam for Robo. Getting all second-level elemental spells at the moment
isn't vital but it's definitely helpful. Everyone should have at least their
first five spells. Oh, and make sure everyone is in the party with everyone
else so you've got all the double and triple techs learnt that you can.

Once you've done that, go to the Laruba Ruins and head straight up to where
Ayla and the Laruba chief are talking. Ayla runs off to the Dactyl Lair so
follow her. (It's to the left of the Hunting Range) There are three simple
rules to this area. One, hit everything that moves. Two, if it's not moving,
hit it anyway. Three, hit everything you see... HARD! Once you get to the top,
you'll find Ayla and you have to choose who'll be the third person in your
party. Personally, I'd take Marle since she's the best healer you've got as of
this moment.

<--[08q] Unnatural Selection? (65,000,000BC)-------------------->

Fly southeast from Dactyl Lair to the Tyrano Lair. Head down the right-hand
stairs and free the Laruba captives before taking the next set of stairs down.
Walk up to the bars of Kino's cell and Ayla will free him. Follow Kino after
taking the Mid Ether, and he'll take you back to the entrance, opening up the
other doorway there. Go up the stairs and step on the switch to the right
before leaving via the right-hand door. Walk to the next room and step on the
right switch and through the now-opened door. Open the left chest to get a Full
Tonic before leaving via the way you came back or by opening the other chest.
Either way, go back to the room with the floor panels that give way and this
time, step on the left switch before leaving through the left-hand exit. Walk
to the next room and grab all the chests you can. It's a bit confusing in here,
but there is a pattern. I could show you a map but I'd basically be ripping off
DMorgan's one, which is also hosted on GameFAQs. Once you've got all you can
from there, exit upwards and head for the far doorway. Once inside, step on the
right-hand switch and then go through to press the next switch. Return to the
walkway and enter the middle door this time. Walk around Nizbel II and save,
using a shelter if needs be before continuing upwards.

[%%%]BOSS: Nizbel II[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4200

This fight is a delicate balancing act between shocking and attacking Nizbel
with healing your party as well. As the last Nizbel fight, if you cast a
lightning spell on him, it lowers his defence. However, unlike the last time
you fought Nizbel, if you hit him, his defence increases. The way I fight him
is like this: Crono casts Lightning, Ayla does the Cat Attack and Marle heals,
or Crono and Ayla cast Volt Bite while Marle heals; that's pretty much all that
Marle's good for at the moment. Oh, and washing the dishes, vacuuming the floor
and spending all of her daddy's money! Anyway, just follow that simple pattern
all the way through, EXCEPT for when Nizbel II unleashes the electrical charge.
Then have Ayla cast Kiss on whoever is weakest while Crono and Marle cast Aura
Whirl. This shouldn't be all that difficult.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Follow the stairs upwards and then head straight for the far doorway. Step on
the left switch and then the right switch for a quick laugh. I do so love doing
that =P. Then open up the doorway in front of you, take the Full Ether and
press the switch. Go back out to the main walkway and take the middle exit this
time. Talk to Azala and then empty both chests, receiving a Ceratopper and Mid
Ether. Before you leave the room, equip everyone with a Ruby Vest if you still
have them. It'll make this fight so much easier.

[%%%]BOSS: Azala & Black Tyrano[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 2500 (Azala), 12,000 (Black Tyrano)

Start by solely attacking Azala with magic. This means having Ayla and Marle
cast Cube Toss and Crono cast Lightning until she's KO'd. Then, wait until the
Black Tyrano takes off its defence before having Marle and Ayla cast Cube Toss
and Crono using his Spincut technique. Also, have Marle heal whenever necessary
while Ayla and Crono cast Volt Bite. When the Black Tyrano reaches the end of
its countdown, it launches a massive fire attack so you best have those Ruby
Vests on! Otherwise, this fight's a piece of cake. I'd also recommend Marle has
the Silver Stud equipped or she's gonna run out of magic points really quickly.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

You should find the Tyrano Lair has been Excretus Est Ex Altitudine so enter
the Lair Ruins. Take the gate and find yourself in...

<--[08r] The Magic Kingdom (12,000BC)--------------------------->

Leave the cave and head southeast to the Skyway. Walk onto the circle and
you're beamed up into the sky. Leave the Land Bridge you're now in and go to
Enhasa. Open the book in the top right corner (Water), then the one in the top
left after the scene with the little boy (Wind) and then the one by the
entrance (Fire) to open a secret door. I'd recommend putting the characters
with their level two elemental spells in your party here. Enter the secret room
and talk to the Nu. Accept the challenge and then cast as many level two spells
as you can. I cast Lightning 2 twice along with Fire 2 and Ice 2 and that only
just got me through without dying. As a reward you get a Magic Tab and a Speed
Tab. Leave the room and use the healing circle next to where the Water book
was. You can stock up on Full Tonics at the shop here (bottom-left corner)
which I'd recommend since there aren't too many places that sell this stuff.
Other than that, you're done here.

Leave Enhasa and walk to the northern Land Bridge. Same procedure as before,
step on the circle and you're beamed down to the ground. Leave the Skyway and
head northwest to the next one. Beam up and you'll find yourself on the main
floating island. Head west and enter Kajar. Repeat the pattern with the books;
Water is in the top left, Wind in the bottom right and Fire by the Nu in the
centre. Another secret door will open up behind you. Enter and take the Poyozo
doll to get the Black Rock. I'll explain about those in the Tech Rocks section.
Soon enough we'll be returning to Kajar but leave for the moment.

Leave the Blackbird alone and head into the cave to the east instead. Follow
the route up to the top where you'll find Zeal Palace. Talk to the Nu on the
walkway and scratch his back for him. Once you've done that, head back to Kajar
and go into the top-right door and scratch the Nu facing the bookcase. He'll
drop a Magic Tab. Return to Zeal Palace and enter the top-right doorway, taking
the right hand exit. Watch the scene between Schala and Janus and then follow
Schala as she leaves. She'll take the central door in the main chamber and open
the large door with a strangely familiar looking pendant...

Unfortunately, you can't do the same yet, but talk to the woman to the left of
the door. Now, leave the hallway and take the top-left exit to the Mammon
Machine. Use it and you'll charge up Marle's pendant. Return to the hallway and
use the door. Success! Before you go in, re-equip the Ruby Vests and make sure
you have Lucca and a healer, either Robo or Frog, in your party. I'd pick Frog
preferably since Heal is more effective than Heal Beam. Enter the doorway and
walk towards the gathering.

[%%%]BOSS: Golem[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 7000

What the Golem does is learn from the moves you use against it and then
reciprocates in kind. So, if you use physical attacks against it, it'll hit
you. If you use water against it, it'll use water against you. Get it? That's
why you have Lucca in your party and you're wearing Ruby Vests. As quick as you
can, have Lucca cast Fire or Fire 2 on Golem and the fight is as good as over.
Keep using Fire Sword while Frog casts Heal and you might as well not have had
an opponent. In other words, only use fire attacks, nothing else. It is OK to
leave the Rage Band on Crono as Golem can't learn from counters, but other than
that, never physically hit it. The only move that should even remotely hurt you
is Golem's finishing move, which should do about 100 damage to each person in
your party. Just keep your health up and you'll be fine.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Unfortunately, once you defeat Golem, you get imprisoned. Schala sets you free
while Janus does his sulky brat routine until the Prophet catches you. However,
instead of killing you, he banishes you from 12,000BC and locks the gate behind
you so you can't return that way.

<--[08s] Break The Seal! (2300AD and 12,000BC)------------------>

Leave the Lair Ruins and get on the Dactyl. Fly back to the Mystic Mountains
and use the gate there to get to the End of Time. Talk to the Old Man and then
take Ayla to see Spekkio. If he's changed form again, fight him to get some
kewl stuff and then head for Medina Village, 1000AD. Now, head to the Forest
Ruins to the north. You use the pendant to open it up and a Nu appears. Take
whichever you feel would suit you best. Personally, I take the sword every time
but the helmet is fairly good as well. When you've made your choice, go through
the Heckran Cave to get a Wall Ring and Dash Ring from the magic box here
before visiting Taban again to get the Taban Suit. Now, go to 2300AD, and
you'll want to visit these places:

Arris Dome. Go down the ladder and through the right-hand door. Make your way
towards the console room as you did before but DON'T take the
second set of stairs. Instead, follow the platform around to the
right and enter the code to the console (L&R + A if you can't
remember) This'll raise another piece of floor which you can use to
open the door. Inside you'll find a Power Tab, a Lumin Robe, an
Elixir, a Hit Ring and a Gold Energy. Nice!

Bangor Dome. Open the door behind the gate and you'll find a Charm Top, a Full
             Ether and a Wallet.

Trann Dome. Open the door there to get a Magic Tab, a Gold Stud and a Full
            Ether.

Return to Bangor Dome and use the gate there. You'll end up at the End of Time
where two new pillars have appeared. Take the far-right one to Guardia Forest,
1000AD, get the Power Ring and then take the gate back to the End of Time.
There are two more magic boxes you can open at the moment; in the Heckran Cave
and in the Magic Cave but leave all of the others alone for the moment. I'll
explain why later. Take the pillar to Proto Dome and re-race Johnny across Lab
32 and then it's time to return to the Sewer Access. You should already know
the layout but I'll go through it anyway.

Because you've already been through here, the bridges will be up, making this a
lot easier. Head left, down, right across the bridge, down while pressing
against the right-hand edge. Press the switch and leave by the left, all the
way up, around the back and through the now open door. Follow the path round to
the bottom and then up the big ladder to the surface. Head to Keeper's Dome and
go straight up, opening the door. A whole load of twinkling dots should appear
on the floor of the next room but unfortunately, they're not Tabs. Walk over
them and a Belthasar's voice will talk to you, explaining what he's been doing
here. Once you've read them all, open the door and behold the Wings of Time! Go
round the back and then try to leave the room. The Nu from near the entrance
will arrive. Name the device but don't board it yet. Leave the room and you'll
find a Magic Tab nearby. Return to the Epoch and get on the seats. Lock and
load, to the past we go...

When you arrive in 12,000BC, you find the Epoch's major limitation: it can't
actually move, so you've got to do the legwork yourself. However, the Skyways
are now blocked so head northwest to the Terra Cave. Climb the ladder and exit
the cave. Enter the first doorway and talk to the man to buy some stuff. As you
may have noticed, it's fairly expensive here so choose carefully what you buy.
Once you've had your fill of commerce, head down to the very bottom and save.
This next bit is very tough. You'll need Lucca along with Frog or Marle in your
party. It's a tough choice but I'd take Marle coz' Antipode 2 just kicks so
much arse! Enter the Beast's Nest and in the bottom right corner is a Power
Tab. Head up and use Antipode 2 to kill both Beasts in one go, though it must
be noted you can charm Rainbow Helms from them which are absolutely brilliant
for this stage in the game. Take the left fork and again, use Antipode 2. Head
upwards for one of the toughest fights in the game.

[%%%]BOSS: Mud Imp, Blue Beast, Red Beast[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 1200 (Mud Imp), 5000 (Both Beasts)

As can be guessed by their colour, the Blue Beast is weak against Fire and the
Red Beast is weak against Ice. For the moment , ignore the Mud Imp and
concentrate on one of the Beasts at a time. Use Fire or Ice Sword on one while
the remaining magician casts Fire or Ice against the other. I'd recommend going
for the Red Beast first out of preference. Use Aura Whirl or Cure frequently
until you've got rid of the Beasts. Then use Spincut (Confuse if you've got it)
and Antipode 2 against the Mud Imp until it gives up the ghost.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

<--[08t] The Guru On Mt.Woe (12,000BC)-------------------------->
Now, head up the chain to the Mountain of Woe, one of the best places to learn
spells and gain levels. If you see any rock-like creatures, attack them.
They'll disable your techs but just batter them until they die or run away. If
you do manage to kill them, you get 1000 experience and 100 tech points which
is like mana from heaven! You may want to equip the Hit Ring on your strongest
fighter as well to make sure they actually hit the darned thing. I'd also
recommend having Lucca in your party here to help her on the way to learning
Flare, her ultimate spell. It's really powerful, and in conjunction with
Marle's Ice 2, it forms Antipode 3, my second favourite spell in the whole
game. Finally, it's important to note that whenever there are Gargoyles in a
fight here, kill them first since they have a move similar to the Nu's which
takes your health down to one.

Head upwards and then across the chain to the left. Fight the Rubble there and
then head down and through the passageway to get a Lode Helm. Return to the
start and take the left turn this time and head straight up the chain. Go left
to fight another Rubble and then go right. Cross the first chain you see, fight
the Rubble and take the Lode Vest and Mid Tonic. Go back across the chain and
head left to the chest in the top left corner. Take the Barrier and head right,
going up the small incline. Follow it round to the left and then go straight up
to get a Lapis. Then cross the chain to the right. Follow the path round to
another chain and then go right to get another Barrier. Go southwest to fight
another Rubble and then head up the incline to cross yet another chain. Take
the Lapis, then head northeast and east. Head up to get yet another Barrier and
then down to get a Full Ether. Return to where the Man Eaters are and try to go
up the chain. Once you've killed them, continue up the chain, go straight up
and then left to fight another Rubble. Head down, right and then down to get a
Shield and a Shelter before heading up and around to the chain. Cross it and
then save before climbing. Follow the path and pick up the Time Hat and Full
Ether along the way until you reach the final chain. Climb it and once you
reach the top, walk up to the giant crystal...

[%%%]BOSS: Giga Gaia (Left Arm, Right Arm and Core)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 9500 (Core), 900 (Both Arms)

Take out the right arm first (our right, not Giga Gaia's) and then the left.
Then, hit it and hit it hard. This boss is a crying shame really. Just pummel
it into the ground and put it out of its misery. Giga Gaia will revive the arms
but at half strength so they're even easier to pick off now.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

<--[08u] What Lies Beyond? (12,000BC)--------------------------->

As can be expected in Chrono Trigger, freeing Melchior sets all hell loose with
Mt. Woe collapsing, Schala being taken by Dalton and the Ocean Palace becoming
fully operational. Get Melchior back on his feet and he'll give you the Ruby
Knife. Spend a night at the inn before leaving Algetty and heading to Zeal
Palace via the Skyways, stopping off at Enhasa to get some cool stuff from the
Nu there. Once at the Palace, head straight for the Throne room.

[%%%]BOSS: Dalton[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 3500

Again, another pansy. Just beat him until he starts crying for momma!
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Use the portal he makes to go to the Ocean Palace.

<--[08v] Lavos Beckons (12,000BC)------------------------------->

Talk to Mune, watch the cut-scene and then leave the first room. Take the first
exit to the right and step on the switch. Two monsters will appear: kill the
Barghest first and then the Jinn. Exit by the bottom right and fight the two
Red Scouts and the Mage. Take out the Mage first since he can lock your techs.
For the scouts, their colour corresponds with what type of magic they're weak
against. So, Red Scouts are weak against fire (but shadow works on them as
well), Blue Scouts are weak against ice/water and Scouters are weak against
lightning. Take the Aeon Helm and exit left, following the path downwards and
come around to get the Aeon Suit. Now go through the top-left door and step on
the switch. Exit southwest and take the Star Sword before exiting to the right.
Follow the path downwards and go through the door in the bottom left. Take the
Shock Wave and head down, following the thin path right around the outside
until you should find yourself disappearing into a wall. Go down and then right
to get the Demon Hit.

Go back to where you first came in the room and go onto the main platform. Get
the Sonic Arrow and then head across the path to the right. Step on the switch
and carry on, picking up the Kaiser Arm on the way. Return to the main chamber
and at the very bottom there should now be an exit. Follow the stairs all the
way down to the bottom. On the second flight of stairs, you can avoid all of
the Thrashers if you time your runs underneath each one, one at a time. When
you reach the final staircase, talk to Masa and watch another cut-scene. Kill
the Jinn and Barghest, save and then exit downwards. Walk onto the lift and
press the button to the right and on cometh the baddies. Three fights in a row
but they're fairly easy. Use Luminaire if you have it for the first two and
then the level 1 elemental spells for the Scouts. Exit the lift and then take
the left path all the way round and pull the switch. Do the same for the right
hand side and then step on the central switch to create a path for you to walk
across. Take the Elixir, save and equip everyone with Ruby Vests, making sure
Lucca is in your party again. Then, head up to where you'll find Dalton.

[%%%]BOSS: Golem Twins[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 7000 (Each)

Same as before but now, Crono should have Confuse and thus you can perform Fire
Sword 2 which is even more damaging! However, due to there being two of them,
the start is crucial here. It's very likely two of your characters will die
before you do anything so have Crono cast life on Lucca and then heal her as
quickly as he can. I started by having Crono use a Lapis almost instantly which
meant that when one of the Golems cast the fireball spell on Lucca, she was
left with 4 health. Phew! That was close. First chance you get, cast Fire 2.
Once you've got that done, this fight is a piece of cake. Lucca and Crono cast
Fire Sword 2 while the third character heals and uses Ethers on the rest of the
party.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Dalton runs off again leaving you no avenue to chase him, but not to worry,
you've got more important matters to attend to. Equip Crono with the crappest
stuff you've got. Head straight up, talk to the Nu to get it out of your way
and then continue up. Time to sit back and watch it all unfold...

[%%%]BOSS: Lavos[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: Who cares? It's gonna kill ya!

There's only one way to fight Lavos. Badly. You cannot win this fight at the
level you'll be right now, but you're not really meant to until you play
through on New Game +. So, sit back and watch this incredibly brief fight.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

When you gain control of Crono again, walk straight up to Lavos and watch the
death of a true hero... Man, that scene gives me Goosebumps every time.

So, the Magic Kingdom of Zeal has crumbled, the Earthbound village of Algetty
has been destroyed and Crono... Crono is dead. What hope is left? Well, you've
still got five people willing to lay their lives down as Crono did in an effort
to defeat Lavos and it ain't over ‘til the fat lady sings.

Ayla is a must-have in your party now as she's the strongest fighter left and
I'd also recommend taking Marle and Lucca since they're the best magicians.
Leave the tent you're in and go into the middle one. Talk to the Nu and stock
up on whatever you need. Then, stay inside the tent but get your party out of
the Nu's way. Wait a bit and it should leave, allowing you to get at the Magic
Tab sitting behind it. However, this doesn't always happen so don't stress it
too much. There's plenty more of those out there. Leave the tent and go to the
Commons. Head straight up and talk to the Elder. Our favourite little pansy
shows up and decides he likes the look of the Epoch. Obviously, you're not too
keen to give it away so he takes you prisoner...

<--[08w] The New King (12,000BC)-------------------------------->

You wake up with no equipment, no items and no money. This means that no-one
can fight except for Ayla since she doesn't use a weapon. Head up the ladder
and you'll discover you're on the Blackbird. Go back inside and climb into the
air duct that the second member of your party will discover. Work your way
through the ducts to the top and then go as far to the left as you can before
you follow the path down and then right. Go down the stairs and you should see
a sleeping guard and a chest. Open the chest to find the leader of your groups
equipment. Go back into the ducts and work your way back to the very bottom.
You should hear a voice and look down the grate you're standing on. Once you're
done there, take the first turn to the left and go down the ladder at the far
end. Go in the first door, kill the guards and open the chest to get the third
person in your party's equipment.

Go up the conveyor belt and open the room to the left. Take the money and then
leave. Go up a level and go in the room with two Bashers outside. Go in, kill
the Byte and open the chest to get the last person in your groups equipment.
Exit that room and then exit by the top. Go in the room to the left to get all
of the items back and then leave by the door at the back, or head into the
ventilation shafts and head for the top-right corner where you'll now find a
Magic Tab. If you do the latter, retrace your steps back to the item chest room
and leave via the back door. Climb the ladder and you'll find yourself on the
Blackbird's left wing. Make sure you've equipped Ayla with the Hit Ring and go
and fight the Turrets. They function much the same way as the Rubbles did so
it's well worth fighting them all. However, try and take them on one at a time
or they will run away from you. Once you've got rid of all of them, head to the
bottom left of the wing.

[%%%]BOSS: Golem Boss[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 15,000

Well... uhm... normally, Golem Boss would wipe the floor with you but there's a
teeny-weeny problem. It's scared of heights! You can either just sit and laugh
as Golem Boss fails again and again or you can give it a helping hand on
getting down from there. Bear in mind, if you don't kill it, you don't get
anything and that's 2500 experience and 40 tech points you're missing out on.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]BOSS: Dalton Plus[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 3500

You didn't think that was it, did you? But then again, I'd hardly call this a
fight either. One Antipode 3 and a Rock Throw did him in... or more accurately,
made Dalton do himself in!
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Hit the Y button to laser the wing and then the X button to get the hell outta
there. When you land, return to the shop to get some new equipment. Then, go to
the Commons and tell the lady in the bottom right corner to plant the sapling.
Then, talk to everyone there. They all say someone was looking for Marle and
the others and is now on the North Cape... could it be Crono? Put Frog in your
group and head straight to the North Cape. Instead of Crono you find Magus and
he tells you about his past. Now, you can be a soppy git and not fight Magus,
letting him join your party, or you can beat the crap out of him with Frog.
It's really up to you. Magus is a very good magician but you already have Marle
and Lucca. Some people think Magus is actually better than Crono but it's
really up to you whether you want him or not. If this is your first time
through the game, I suggest you take him with you so you can make up your own
mind if you decide to play it again. Or...

[%%%]BOSS: Magus[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6666

Frog goes mano-a-mano with Magus, his arch-nemesis. I found this fight
ridiculously easy, but I know others have had problems with it so here goes.
Whack him with Leap Slash until Magus gets down to 3333 health. Then he'll
start casting level 2 elemental spells as counters and as his normal attack. If
you've got any, equipping Frog with the colour mail/vest (Red Mail/Vest, Blue
Mail/Vest, White Mail/Vest) will heal him randomly which helps. Don't know
where to get those? See my mysterious seal section or read the Redemption
sidequest. Either way, keep using Leap Slash.

If you can't beat Magus with just Frog, don't put him in your group and you can
have a normal fight against Magus, three-on-one, but it just doesn't seem right
to me...
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

When you're done at the North Cape, get in the Epoch. The Ocean Palace will
rise into the air, but as something else...

<--[08x] The Time Egg (2300AD)---------------------------------->

Go to the End of Time and talk to the Old Man, or as we now know him to be,
Guru Gaspar. Now, he gives you the Chrono Trigger, AKA the Time Egg. The
question is, do you want to bring Crono back or not? You can do it now or wait
until the end sequence. If I want to make beating the game as easy as possible,
I resurrect Crono. However, if I'm playing it for the storyline, then I think
it's so much better if you don't resurrect him. Anyway, here's how to do it:

Take the Epoch to 2300AD and go to the Keeper's Dome. Go inside and talk to
Belthasar/the Nu. He'll tell you you'll need a clone to resurrect Crono.
Remember back at the beginning I told you to play that game in Norstein
Bekkler's Tent of Horrors? The one which you win a Crono clone from? Go back to
1000AD and get the clone from Crono's house. If you didn't get the clone when I
told you to, you can still get it. Play the 40-point game but it'll last a lot
longer than last time, and if you lose, you have to fork up a lorra lorra cash!

Return and talk to Belthasar again. He'll send three blue Poyozo dolls to Death
Peak which will help you on your climb. Once Belthasar has finished, he asks
you to turn the Nu off. Be a good fellow and do it and then make your way to
Death Peak.

Quickly run to the right and you should find a Power Tab. By the time you find
it on all that snow and have nabbed it, you've probably been blown off the
screen. Simply return, but this time, run up to the first Poyozo Doll and it'll
turn into a tree. Use it as a shield against the wind (stand so you're closer
to the bottom of the screen than the tree is), and when it dies down a bit, run
to the next tree and do the same. When you're through the first screen, head to
the left to get a Magic Ring and then up the cliff. Head right and climb another
bit of cliff before exiting to the right. Head upwards, into the cave and
inside, you'll find a Lavos Spawn. Whatever you do, don't hit the shell.
Concentrate on whacking the beak/mouth and it shouldn't be too difficult. Take
the Giga Arm then exit north. Run along the precipice and go through the
entrance at the end. Nab the Bravesword, exit downwards and press the switch to
the left of the cave (it looks like a Tab on the ground). Go all the way back
round to the entrance and take the slope down. Take the Wall Ring before
walking through the newly-opened entrance.

Take the Starscythe as you run up the steps and outside there'll be another
Lavos Spawn. Exit left and talk to the second Poyozo Doll. What you need to do
here is try to move diagonally across the bridge, always moving against the
wind. Only stop pressing forwards when you need to go down a bit and run to go
up. Be very gentle and take your time with the crossing and you'll be fine.
Take the Vedic Blade (which you can't equip since it's a weapon for Crono) and
head down. Walk along the ledge, exiting left, which will take you back to the
second screen. Talk to the third and final Poyozo Doll before climbing down the
cliff. Run along and down another cliff to get a Dark Helm before climbing back
up. Head straight up to face the final Lavos Spawn on Death Peak. You'll notice
this ones shell doesn't disappear. Push it to the right until it's under where
the climbing section of the cliff is and then clamber onto the shell. Take the
Memory Cap before reaching the summit of Death Peak. Run up to the tree and
watch it all unfold.

<--[08y] The Fated Hour (Various)------------------------------->

You'll have returned to the End of Time. Talk to Gaspar and he'll explain all
of the ways you can get to Lavos. He'll also give you hints towards several
sidequests you can complete before fighting Lavos if you want:

Robo: "In the Middle Ages, a woman's sheer determination brings a forest back
       to life."
Magus: "A fugitive in the Middle Ages, Ozzie, maintains an evil hideout..."
Robo: "There's a task to be done in the Future, where machinery originated."
Lucca: "And there's a very special stone that can shine it's light on each
generation, from the distant past to the far future..."
Frog: "There's the ghost of a lofty knight, slain by Magus in the Middle
       Ages, who haunts the present..."
Marle: "There's an object in the Middle Ages that sparkles like a rainbow..."
Magus: "One of you is close to someone who needs help... Find this person...
       fast."

Talk to all six SPEAKING members of your party and they'll give you a clue as
to something that will help. You don't have to do these but it will help you
learn all the techs, go up loads of levels and get some really cool equipment
and items so it's well worth it. You can do them in any order but I'll show you
mine.

First, head to 65,000,000BC and go to the trading hut to get some Ruby Armour.
You'll be needing it real soon...

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.1] THE SUNSTONE (2300AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Go directly south from Arris Dome and you'll find an island upon which the Sun
Palace is situated. Land there and equip the Ruby Armour. Go inside and you'll
have to fight...

[%%%]BOSS: Son of Sun[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 3000

Whatever you do, don't hit the eye or you'll be in for a whole world of pain.
You've got a one-in-five chance of hitting the right flame and successfully
damaging its core. Once you find it, keep hitting it until it shuffles the
flames again. The Ruby Armour should stop you from getting too hurt so just
keep plugging away until it dies. It doesn't matter who you have in your party,
you'll always end up doing the same damage to the core.

An incredibly cheap tactic can be used if you're playing via an emulator. After
Son of Sun uses Roulette Shuffle, save the state and attack the flames. Once
you find the right one, load the save state and attack the confirmed correct
flame. Repeat this procedure every time it shuffles.

A tactic I'm yet to test but am aware of is to have Magus in your party and
have him cast Black Hole, thus instantly killing two of the flames. This
reduces the odds of hitting the correct flame to 3-1.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Once it's defeated, chase it across the bridge to where it'll turn into the
Moon Stone. Take it to 65,000,000BC and put it in the Sun Keep and then go to
2300AD. You'll find the Sunstone missing so go to 1000AD and the Mayor's Manor
in Porre will have a stream of light coming from it. I wonder what could be
causing that? However, he's a big meanie and pretends he doesn't know anything
about it. Go to the Snail Stop and buy some Jerky and then go to 600AD and give
it away for free to the woman in the Porre Mayor's Manor Return to the manor in
1000AD and the Mayor will simply give it to you. Take it to the Sun Keep in the
same era and then go to it in 2300AD. Make sure to have Lucca in your group and
you'll find yourself back at her house, 1000AD. You'll get the rather mercurial
Wondershot and the Sun Shades. See the special equipment section for
explanations on how these work.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.2] THE EVIL TRIUMVIRATE (600AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

I say evil but I mean Flea, Slash and Ozzie. I'd recommend taking Ayla,
equipped with the Charm Top, with you since she can get some great stuff here,
Magus, for their reactions, and Robo for healing. Anyway, Ozzie's Fort is just
to the east of where Magus' Castle was. Go in and you'll meet up with Ozzie.
When Ozzie runs off, follow him through and you'll have to fight Flea for the
second time. Once you've pasted her into the ground, carry on upwards to where
Ozzie shows just how useless he is. Chase him again and you'll have to fight
Slash for a second time as well. Given him a good slapping? Chase after him
into the next room. Ignore the chest behind the axe blade, head straight for
the exit upwards. An Imp will come and set the trap off, leaving you free to
take the Full Ether that's inside it. Also, there's a secret compartment to
this room. Head straight down from the stairs up and you'll find the Gloom
Cape, Gloom Helm and the Doomsickle as well as a Magic Tab. See the special
equipment section to see how the Doomsickle works. Go up the stairs to where
it's all settled.

[%%%]BOSS: Ozzie, Super Slash, Flea Plus[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6,000 (Great Ozzie), 4,000 (Flea Plus), 4,000 (Super Slash)

Having the Ruby Armour on will help since most of Flea's moves and their
counters are fire-based. First off, concentrate on either Slash or Flea, but
make sure to steal both the Flea Vest and Slasher 2. Once one's gone, the other
will run away leaving you to concentrate on Ozzie the "Great." Have Magus cast
Dark Bomb, Ayla use Charm and then Rock Throw while Robo casts Heal Beam and
Robo Tackle. You can also charm Ozzie Pants from Ozzie. See an explanation of
it in the special equipment section.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Take the Dash Ring and Sight Cap before pursuing Ozzie deeper into his Fort.
This fight should be somewhat similar to your fight against Ozzie in Magus'
Castle. Hit the switch behind him and a pit opens up below you. Run back up to
where Ozzie was and this time, he's finally defeated... by an ickle-wickle,
cute kitten!

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.3] FIONA'S FOREST (600AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Go to Fiona's Villa and talk to her husband, Marco. He'll tell you the monsters
in the Sunken Desert hate water, so you want Marle and Frog in your group. I'd
take Crono as the third member you'll see why later. Head to the Sunken Desert
and fall through the centre of the whirlpool. In the first room, you should
find a Lapis, a Full Ether, an Elixir and an Aeon Suit. The fights here are
quite tough so have Marle and Frog cast Ice Water with Crono picking off
anything that's left standing. Once you've got all of that stuff, go down to
where a strange beast keeps popping up from the ground. You'll find 5000 gold,
a Full Tonic, a Hyper Ether, an Aeon Helm, a Muscle Ring, a Memory Cap and a
Full Ether. Now, wait until the beast pops up and run into it, though you may
just wish you hadn't...

[%%%]BOSS: Retinite (Upper Body, Lower Body, Core)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6000 (Upper Body), 4500 (Lower Body), 500 (Core)

This one can be tough without the right tactics. Have Marle cast Ice on the
upper body while Frog and Crono beat the hell out of it. Every time life is
sucked out of the eye, have Crono cast Lightning on it to keep it alive. It
makes this fight a hell of a lot easier. When the top half dies, have Marle
cure the party, Frog cast Water on the lower body and Crono use his Confuse
technique on it.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

(NOTE: It has been brought to my attention that if you ignore the chests in
the first room and fight the Retinite ASAP, the monsters you didn't
fight will just disappear! This saves a lot of hassle but does mean you
miss out on valuable experience and tech points.)

Down and a bit to the left from the exit, you should find a Power Tab. Leave
the Sunken Desert and go back to Fiona's Villa with Robo in your party. Leave
him behind and then travel to 1000AD where you'll find a lush forest instead of
the desert we're used to. Go into Fiona's Shrine and buy some Vigil Hats as
they're the best you can buy in the game. Then, go to the very top and
reactivate Robo.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.4] LEGS & CO. (990AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

I know, I know, you're thinking, "What the hell does he mean 990AD? You can't
get there?" Well, you can actually. After you reactivate Robo, you
automatically come to this sidequest. As the reunion party comes to an end and
everyone goes to sleep, you assume control of Lucca. Leave by the bottom-left
and take the gate you find there. You find yourself in Lucca's room. Read the
piece of paper on the floor and you realise you've gone back ten years to a
terrible moment in Lucca's life. Go downstairs and then into the kitchen to
read the note there. Go into the main room and watch the trauma unfurl. When
Lucca's mum tells Lucca to enter the password, go as far down to the right as
you can and press A. It'll ask you to enter the password you should have got
from the note in the kitchen. That's L, A, R, A just in case you couldn't
remember her name. You save Lara from losing her legs to the machine. Next, you
see Lucca back in her room where there's another note. Read that and then go
back through the gate. Robo will be there and he'll give you the Green Dream.
It's gotta be better than a wet one at least...

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.5] REAWAKENING (2300AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Go to the Geno Dome in 2300AD, which is southeast of Proto Dome. Put Robo at
the head of your group and whomever else you want. Use the console and then go
through the door. Step onto the conveyor belt and get ready for a massive
string of fights. Head through the door, go all the way to the left and fight
the two Debuggests. Now, go right, then up and use the console to find out all
you need to know about Geno Dome. Take the Full Ether and then step in the
machine. Electricity will flow around you so while it lasts, head down, right,
pull the switch and step into the cubicle. That'll open up the door next to you
where you'll find a Full Tonic and a Barrier. Leave that room, left up, through
the door and to the three switches. Press the one on the left and the one on
the right and then return to the charging machine. Step in it and then run to
the cubicle you just opened. Go into the room next to it to find a Poyozo Doll.

Now, go to the main corridor and follow it all the way round to the right.
Enter the door there and you should see two chests and three Proto 4's in their
alcoves. Fight them and then take the Lapis and Elixir. Leave, go down and
enter the door next to where you left the conveyor belt. Take the lift up to
the next floor. Enter the door by the lift and go all the way up the corridor.
Take the lift down and go right, press the switch to reverse the conveyer belts
flow. Then, go back to the lift and go down to turn off the laser and then
across to open the cubicle. Make your way to the charging machine and then run
to the booth you just opened as quickly as possible. Inside, you'll find a
broken sentry robot, a Hyper Ether and a Full Ether. Use the robot and it will
follow you. Take it to where the other sentry robot was blocking your access to
the second Poyozo Doll. Manoeuvre yourself so the broken robot ends up in front
of the working one and they'll both stop moving, leaving you free to nab the
second doll and the Vigil Hat. Take the big lift back up to the top floor and
go down, taking the Lapis. Head left and there'll be somewhat of a family
reunion for Robo, and just like the last one, it involves kicking the crap out
of something, but this time, it's Robo's cuddle-buddy who bites the dust.

[%%%]BOSS: Atropos XR[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6000

Robo's one-time companion, but now she's a right royal pain in the arse, just
because he popped out to get a pint of milk and came back 301 years later.
Typical woman, making a drama out of the smallest of things... Robo takes her
on alone, but he should totally outclass her. Just keep hitting her and
healing; it's really not difficult, especially if you've got the Ruby Armour on
which makes her Area Bomb attack pretty much worthless. In return for killing
her, she gives you her Ribbon which adds three to Robo's speed and ten to his
Magic Defence, making him a hell of a lot better fighter.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Now, use the switch above you to get a Mega Elixir and a Magic Tab. Go down,
left, down the ladder and along the path, taking the 15,000 gold along the way.
Inside, you'll see a processing line of humans. Leave by the right-hand exit to
get a Full Ether before returning to the top of the ladder. Go up and place the
two Poyozo Dolls on the glowing floor tiles either side of the door to open it.

[%%%]BOSS: Mother Brain, Display (x3)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 5000 (Mother Brain), 1 (Displays)

Destroy two of the three displays behind the Mother Brain and then concentrate
on her. Whatever you do, DON'T destroy all of them or she'll cause you a lot of
hassle. I had Robo, Frog and Magus in my party: Magus cast Dark Bomb, which hit
both the Mother Brain and the panel behind her, while Frog and Robo cast Bubble
Snap. This may seem easy to you, but try doing it without the Ruby Armour and
having destroyed all three Displays! You get the Terra Arm and the Crisis Arm.
See the special equipment section for an in-depth explanation of how the Crisis
Arm works.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.6] REDEMPTION (600AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Go to the Café on the southeast island, 600AD, and talk to the man nearest the
door. He'll tell you his tools have been stolen. Go to 1000AD and in the Choras
Inn, you'll find a guy who looks just like the Carpenter. Talk to him and he'll
let you borrow his tools. Go to the residence and get them from his wife before
heading back to 600AD. Give the Carpenter the tools and he'll go to his house.
Follow him and he'll go off to fix up the ruins. Go to the North Ruins and
he'll have done part of the work. Clear out any monsters you can find in the
place before going back to the Carpenters. Pay him to fix the North Ruins some
more and then clean it out some more. Head down the left set of stairs and
follow it round until you find Cyrus' grave. Put Frog in your group for an
emotional scene and the revelation of the Masamune's true nature. The Carpenter
should make one more trip and then you've got free roam of the place. There's a
neat trick to learn here. You see the magic boxes; open them but don't take out
their contents. Go to 1000AD and take the upgraded versions and then go back to
600AD to take the original ones as well! This goes for the magic boxes in
Guardia Castle, the inns and the house in Dorino.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.7] THE RAINBOW SHELL (600AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Go to the Café in Choras at 600AD and talk to Toma. He'll give you the Toma's
Pop. Go to the West Cape in 1000AD, where Toma's grave is, and pour the pop on
it. He'll tell you where the Rainbow Shell is. Go back to 600AD and fly to the
Giant's Claw. Inside, you'll find a note left by Toma. Read it and then carry
on. You'll find yourself inside Azala's throne room. If you want to, you can
sit on her throne and have a bit of a giggle. It seemed quite funny at the
time... Exit downwards and take the Sight Cap. Go down the stairs and through
the door. Step on the left switch and jump down the hole. Step on the left
switch and go through the jaw to get a Power Tab, then exit downwards. Down the
ladder and to the left is a Full Ether and to the right is another Power Tab.
Go back up the ladder and all the way around the path, taking the Blue Rock
along the way. Go down the adders, nabbing the Zodiac Cape. Take the left hand
set of stairs and then step on the switch to the left before leaving through
the door on the left side to get a Frenzy Band, even better than the Rage Band.
Go back a screen and step on the right hand switch before leaving via the door
to the right. Fight both Rubbles and continue onwards. Open the chest to the
right to release the floor underneath you. Exit the cell and take the stairs up
to get a Power Tab. Go back down and then take the stairs on the other side.
Open the cell, equip everyone with the Ruby Armour and go onwards, brave
soldier...

[%%%]BOSS: Rust Tyrano[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 25,000

Same as last time really. As long as you've got the Ruby Armour equipped, the
Rust Tyrano can't really hurt you. I had Ayla, Crono and Magus as my group
here. For the first round, Magus cast Dark Mist, Crono cast Luminaire and Ayla
charmed the Red Mail from the Rust Tyrano. After that, it was Falcon Hit and
Dark Mist, all the way...
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.8] THE TIES THAT BIND (1000AD)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

So, the Rainbow Shell is now at Guardia Castle so go there in 1000AD with Marle
in your group. But what's going on? The Chancellor is being all chummy now and
there's a trial? Head for the courtroom up the stairs to the right, taking the
Hyper Ether on the way up. Talk to the guards and they let you through where
you find out the King is on trial for selling the Rainbow Shell, even though
he's never heard of it. When you get thrown out, go down and then down the far-
right stairs to the basement. Run along the corridor as the trial goes on,
taking the two Hyper Ethers, two Elixirs and two Lapis'. When you reach the
Rainbow Shell, take a shard from it and return to the courtroom. Unfortunately,
they still won't let you in but Marle remembers a secret way in...

[%%%]BOSS: Yakra XIII[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 18,000

Unlike his bungling ancestor, this Yakra is one tough cookie, which is why
we've saved him for last. However, Antipode 3 and Luminaire does the trick
every time, just make sure you've got those Vigil Hats equipped.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

When you've defeated Yakra, Marle and the King have their heart-to-heart and he
agrees to let her leave the castle, Melchior turns up. First, return to the
courtroom and pick up the Yakra Key; then, go down two levels and unlock the
chest to free the real Chancellor. Now, head down to the basement where the
Rainbow Shell lies and you'll find Melchior hard at work. Firstly, he'll give
you a choice between one Prism Dress or three Prism Helms. Since you've already
got the Vigil Hats which are almost as good, I'd take the Prism Dress. Talk to
him again and you'll get the Prism Specs. Talk to him a third and final time
and you'll get the Rainbow, Crono's ultimate sword. Make sure you clean the
castle out since there's plenty of good stuff to be had; I'm quite sure Daddy
dearest won't mind!

Now there are only two things left to do. The Black Omen and Lavos itself...

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
==[08y.9] THE BLACK OMEN (ANY ERA)==
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Fly to the Black Omen and make sure Ayla is in your group. There's so much
brilliant stuff to steal in here that she's a must! Also, I'd use this place
to get the last remaining techs you need and then levelling up your final party
for the apocalyptic battle to come. Inside, you'll find Queen Zeal and after
her tirade, one big, bad-ass looking mutant appears behind her.

[%%%]BOSS: Mega Mutant (Top and Bottom)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4600 (Top), 3850 (Bottom)

This one's simple enough; Charm an Elixir from the top half and make sure
everything you do hits that top half. It's not nearly as tough as it looks but
worse is to come.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

This place is fairly linear with no puzzles so you don't need me to give you
step-by-step directions. However, the fights in here are tough so listen up. Do
not use Lightning or Shadow based attacks on Goons as they absorb it. Steal
from Panels to get the ever-elusive Speed Tabs. Steal from Tubsters to get
Power Tabs. Steal from Aliens to get Magic Tabs. Steal from Flyclops' to get
Gold Studs. Steal from Ruminators to get Mega Elixirs. Beat the crap out of
Side Kicks to get lots of tech points. Never, EVER hit Aliens or it's instant
death. Never, EVER cast magic on Blobs or it's instant death.

Along the way, you'll find the best shop in the game: Two Nu's standing in a
room with six chests and a save point. No weapons, but Mid Tonics, Full Tonics,
Mid Ethers. Full Ethers and Hyper Ethers. Bear in mind as well that this is the
LAST shop in the game and you all know how the saying goes: You can't take it
with you...

In the next screen is your first Tubster encounter. These guys do a lot of
damage but they don't have too much health. No Shadow magic for these dudes but
one good double tech will sort them out. As I mentioned earlier, you can Charm
Power Tabs off of these guys so do that first thing.

[%%%]BOSS: Giga Mutant (Top and Bottom)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4950 (Top), 5800 (Bottom)

Steal a Hit Ring from the bottom and then blast the top with magic only since
physical hits do sod all damage. However, he will counter any magic by stealing
some of the casters magic points which is a pain but it's gotta be done.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]BOSS: Terra Mutant (Top and Bottom)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 7860 (Top), 20000 (Bottom)

The last of the mutants and this one is a real doozy. As last time, no physical
hits, only magic. It doesn't counter this time but it does more damage and is a
lot stronger. Go for the head and make me proud! They grow up so quickly these
days... *sob*
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]BOSS: Lavos Spawn (Beak and Shell)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 10000

Hit the beak and not the shell. I'd recommend Lucca, Ayla and then a multi-
target healer, preferably Robo for this. Have Lucca and Ayla cast Blaze Kick
while Robo casts Heal Beam. It really shouldn't take long.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

When you reach a room full of capsules containing the characters, prepare
yourself to finish this, once and for all. Pick your party, make sure they've
all got full health and magic before walking down that corridor since it's
gonna be intense. I'd also recommend equipping those Gold Studs you've been
pinching on all of your characters. Finally, my party suggestion is Ayla, Marle
and Lucca.

[%%%]BOSS: Queen Zeal[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 12,000

Beat her down. Steal a Mega Elixir from her and get ready to use it when Zeal
casts Hallation, which sends everyone's health down to one. Of course, you use
one AFTER having Ayla summon the Dino Tail. Heh. Heh. Heh. Also, have Marle and
Lucca casting Antipode 3 for good measure.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]BOSS: Mammon Machine[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 20,000

Apparently, this thing can kill you. I've never seen it but I have a friend who
knows a friend of a friend who's died against the Mammon Machine. If that
doesn't say all that needs to be said about this fight, then you must be blind,
stupid or Richard Simmons. Oh, and you can nab a Mega Elixir from it. Antipode
3 and Triple Kick.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]BOSS: Queen Zeal (Left Hand, Right Hand and Mask)==========
HP: 20,000 (Mask), 5000 (Hands)

Simple enough fight here. Touch the arms in any way and they'll counter...
painfully. However, you can steal a Prism Helm from the Left Arm and a Prism
Dress from the Right Arm, which is well worth the hurt. Then, steal a Mega
Elixir from the Mask and concentrate all your attacks on that. Have Lucca and
Ayla cast Blaze Kick while Marle heals everyone and uses Mega Elixirs when
Hallation is cast.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Aww, Little Miss Pissy Pants is all upset you wiped the floor with her and gets
her big brother on you. Of course, who can blame her when she's got a big
brother like Lavos? It's time for the final showdown!

                     -----------=====<*8*>=====-----------

<--[08z] The Final Battle (Tesseract)--------------------------->

Lavos takes ten different forms, all of which you've faced before. Admittedly,
one of them pasted you into the ground but mweh. I'd recommend taking Crono,
Marle and Lucca, giving them all Gold Studs and the best equipment you've
got... like you weren't going to do that anyway! Here goes:

[%%%]Form: Dragon Tank (Head, Grinder and Tank)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 600 (Head), 208 (Grinder), 266 (Tank)

The head of the tank will be on our left and remember, it's immune to lightning
and fire. So, just cast Antipode 3 instead, which does Shadow damage.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Guardian, Bit (x2)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 1200 (Guardian), 200 (Bit)

Luminaire. Need I say more?
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Heckran[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 2100

Luminaire. Or Flare. Or pretty much anything really.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Zombor (Top and Bottom)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 960 (Top), 800 (Bottom)

The bottom half is strong against Ice and Shadow while the top is strong
against Fire and Lightning. Me? I got bored and beat it to death with Crono
only and he was equipped with the Mop!
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Masa&Mune[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 3600

Oh for the love of God! This is the final boss; can't it at least put some
effort in? Still, having said that, I did have to hit this one more than once
which says something.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Nizbel[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 4200

For the sake of making this quick, equip Crono with the Prism Specs, have him
cast Lightning on Nizbel and then just beat him into a pulp.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Magus[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 6666

Totally and utterly embarrassing. Hit it to make it change barrier and then hit
it with the strongest spell of that type you've got. So that's Luminaire, Fire
Sword 2, Ice Sword 2 or Antipode 3. Just one of those should push Magus into
his second phase where he starts casting Dark Matter. Now just beat him with
whatever you want to really, it won't take long.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Azala & Black Tyrano[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 2500 (Azala), 12,000 (Black Tyrano)

Use Antipode 3 to kill Azala and then wait until the Black Tyrano removes its
defence to push it into an early retirement.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Giga Gaia (Left Arm, Right Arm and Core)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 9500 (Core), 900 (Both Arms)

I thought this guy was pathetic the first time round. Imagine what I think of
it now... My fight went something like this. Giga Gaia did a move that took 12
health of each member of my party. I replied with Antipode 3, killing both
hands, quickly followed by Luminaire, Antipode 3, Luminaire and a final
Antipode 3 at a grand cost of 31
magic points and 36 health.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

[%%%]Form: Lavos[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 10,000

I nearly wept with relief when it didn't say it was changing attack mode. We're
gonna get a real fight at last! Use a Mega Elixir before the fight and then
weep when you realise you didn't need to. Five attacks in and it was dead. For
Christ's sake, I just killed the final boss in five hi--oh wait, it's NOT the
final boss. "Step inside my parlour," said the spider to the fly...
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Inside, you'll find a save point and a gate. Now, because I'm a dramatic sod,
I usually take the gate out, take the Epoch to 1999AD and then fly it straight
through Lavos' outer shell. It's a useful point to remember since it means you
can skip the warm up fights BUT to get New Game +, you HAVE to reach Lavos via
the Black Omen and of course, if you do that, you have to do the warm-up
fights. Life just isn't fair, is it?

One way or another, head straight up and you'll find something...

[%%%]BOSS: Lavos (Left Arm, Right Arm and Core)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 8,000 (Left Arm), 12,000 (Right Arm), 20,000 (Core)

Now, THIS is a fight and a half! Start off by casting Luminaire and Antipode 3
repeatedly until the arms are dead. Once the right arm (our right) is gone, the
shield is removed from the core. Keep casting Luminaire and Antipode 3 but keep
a close eye on your health at all times. If it drops below 400, heal that
person immediately. Marle is nigh on godly in this fight with Life 2. She saved
my arse with that spell so many times I want to kiss her! Just keep on plugging
away until it croaks.
[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]

Game over, you won, right? WRONG! And thank god coz' as hard as that last fight
was, it's not a good final boss fight unless you can actually lose it easily if
you don't have the right strategy.

[%%%]BOSS: Lavos Core (Body, Left Bit and Right Bit)[%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%]
HP: 10,000 (Body), 2,000 (Left Bit), 30,000 (Right Bit)

Let's start with what bits do what: the left bit heals the core and removes
your status defence, the core does most of the attacks and the right bit
revives the left bit and core when they're dead. The main point is that the
part you need to kill is the right bit. That dies and it all dies. The key
feature is that the right bit maintains a very strong defence, making it near
impervious to damage. The only time it'll drop that defence is when it's
reviving the other parts, so the first thing to do is destroy the weakest bit.
Have Crono use Confuse on, and Lucca shoot, the left bit. That SHOULD do it but
we all know what the Wondershot is like. Almost immediately after that, the
right bit will drop its defence. Now weigh in heavy, casting Antipode 3 and
Luminaire constantly, healing whenever necessary. Remember, since you saved it
before fighting the fake Lavos and New Game + requires a save file to load
from, anything you use in this fight won't have been used in the New Game +,
thus there's no reason to be sparing with the Mega Elixirs and Hyper Ethers;
use whatever you need to in kicking Lavos' arse!

The Lavos Core's attacks depend on what era you're in, which is signified by
the background you're fighting against. The list is as follows:

Grassy cliff:   65,000,000BC - 'Grand Stone'. Ultimate physical attack;
                               targets all.
Mammon Machine: 12,000BC - 'Invading Light'. Inflicts Slow-status on the
party; only used when all three parts are
                               alive.
Magus' Castle: 600AD - 'Evil Star'. Halves HP of the entire party.
Leene Square: 1000AD - 'Spell'. Random status effects; targets all.
City ruins: 2300AD - 'Dreamless'. Ultimate magical attack, targets
                               all.

Dreamless and Grand Stone are certainly aptly described. Dreamless will almost
certainly kill anyone not wearing a Prism Dress, i.e. Crono's screwed, while
Grand Stone will almost certainly kill anyone who has low physical defence,
i.e. Marle and Lucca are screwed. Again, Marle's Life 2 and Crono's Life are
invaluable here and the Gold Studs mean you can keep casting magic until the
cows come home. Just remember, the right bit is your main target. You cannot
kill Lavos without destroying the right bit. If you need to heal, have Marle
cast Cure 2 while Crono and Lucca cast Fire Sword 2 on the right bit. Use Heals
to undo the effects of Spell and Invading Light as quickly as possible since
you need all hands on deck.

Just keep at it and eventually Lavos will fall...
