Final Fantasy Origins
Question from agiar
Asked on: 12/1 8:04AMFor most of Final Fantasy, there are only a few new places to go, and it is relatively easy to figure out how to proceed. However, after the player defeats Marilith, no one in Crescent Lake offers any useful advice regarding how to proceed.
I know from reading the guides and walkthroughs that it is time to get the Levistone from the Ice Cavern and use it on a small desert to gain the airship, but I am curious to know how anyone was supposed to be able to figure that out in the first place. Is there an NPC somewhere who offers some kind of clue? I can imagine someone figuring out to go to the ice cavern, since it is one of only a few places newly accessible with the canoe, but it seems really far-fetched that the player was supposed to just guess the right location to use the Levistone or try using it everywhere until it worked.
Talking to people in towns usually gives some hints. One NPC mentioned something about using the levistone in the desert. It wasn't too useful, but at least it was a little hint..
It really couldn't have been that hard. You get a Canoe and there's only 2 places to go with it. One being the Volcano. If one got stuck, I'm sure they'd explore more and go anywhere that they can with the canoe. Eventually they'd stumble upon the Ice Cavern. And about the desert, there are 3 deserts that can be accessed at this point. After hearing about using the stone in a desert, I'd assume one would try to use the Levistone in any patch of sand they could find. That shouldn't take too long at all.

statusOld school games like this tend to encourage a lot of exploration by the player.
It was never really a problem for me, since I got the big manual with hints up to the Ariship and some dungeon maps when I got the NES cart, so I knew where to go.
