007: Tomorrow Never Dies
Review by Larcen Tyler
"Not even Bond can save this game!"
Why did Tomorrow Never Dies fail? Some might say that the developers didn't have the right idea, that they thought that GoldenEye was a simple shooter with a Bond license stuck onto it. That's not the case, but it's too late now. Untill The World Is Not Enough arrives, we'll have to settle for Syphon Filter.
Graphics: 5/10
Personally, the graphics look like they're a first-gen standard, coupled with a lot of polygonal breakup, and very stiff animation. Sure there's blood, but who needs it? All it does really is just detract from the Bond experience, since I don't think Mr. Bond saw unrealistic amounts of blood gush out when he shot an enemy.
Sounds: 4/10
The Bond theme is about the only saving grace for this game. The in-game music is below average, and the sound effects are very sparse. Even the few voice overs I saw were very poorly done. It made me regret trading GoldenEye(!) for Silent Hill!(!!)
Controls: 4/10
Don't expect it to be easy. By the time you've targeted an enemy accurately enough to actually get a hit, half of the rest of the enemies have already syphoned your life away. That's how poor the controls are. Too bad, indeed. I could have liked this game regardless, if it hadn't been for the poor controls.
Replay: 3/10
Umm, let me see. No multiplayer, no hidden games, just two difficulty levels. That's it? Sorry, but there isn't enough replay value here for me. What's wrong with you people, EA?
Overall: 4/10
Die-hard Bond fans should rent this game before they make any firm decisions. Otherwise, stick with Syphon Filter. At least that game offers more variety (and action) than this game which died over half a year ago! Those who play this game will agree that it died before tomorrow actually came!
