Jersey Devil

"A Greatly Overlooked Game....With it's Flaws."

Jersey Devil is a very overlooked game. Here's an analogy to back up my opinion: Say you like a band, you go on their page and see they don't have that many hits. You wonder why.....
Compare that to this game, Jersey Devil.

Let's get started on the review:

The Story:10/10

Dr. Knarf and his odd mutant-veggie crew are completely terrorizing the city of Jersey. Along with his pumpkin-headed assistant, Dennis, they are taking hostages and turning the great town of Jersey into a hell-hole-ish ghosttown. It's up to you, Jersey Devil (named after a creature rumored to roam the town) to save the town.....With comedic value! The story is the highlight of the game....Did I mention that it's funny?

Graphics:7/10
The graphics are nicely shaped for a PS1 console game. They are quite dazzling, but would be even better with a cel-shading job (Imagine that!) However, the environment is not as designed as well as it could be. Lots of glitches can be found in this game.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay could use some improvement. Could be because it's a bit outdated, but it's really just kind of a clone of Crash, Spyro, Gex etc. The moves you can pull off are kind of cool, but that's really just about it for gameplay.

Levels: 10/10

The levels in this game are complete, utter fun! Long and sometimes a bit tedious, but is that not what we like in video games that keeps the gamer attractive? You may find yourself a bit frustrated at first, but once you get into it, your eyes will be glued to the television and your hands to the controller. They are very well in depth.

Sounds: 6/10
In most levels, the sound is pretty cool. In some of the levels it's kind of boring. Take the beginning level. The music is really drawn out and just sounds like the same ol' thing over and over. However, I will say that the sounds the monsters make are very humorous and slapstickish. Still though, crank up some other tunes while playing this game, folks.

Challenge Value:10/10

ARRRGH! I KEEP FALLING OFF THE BOXES AND DYING!!! or ARRRGH, THAT BIG CAVEMAN THING KEEPS THROWING BARRELS AT ME!!!!

You might say that a few times. The challenge value will keep you playing this game for hours. You'll be tempted to use cheats for sure.

Characters:10/10

The characters are simply hilarious figures. JD (Jersey Devil) makes some real funny remarks whenever he does talk. Dr. Knarf is the corny-type villain, and apparently he's aware of that. His pumpkin-headed, loyal, yet somewhat disgruntled assistant, Dennis is clumsy and fails to meet his master's needs. Dr. Knarfs crew are mutated veggies that make funny noises. How is that NOT funny?

Overall: 7/10
All in all, any comic-book loving, platform gamer should try to track the game down and buy it. With it's flaws, it's still worth the money and the time of tracking it down. Hopefully in the future the developers of this game will make a sequel with cel shaded graphics! Tell me that wouldn't be awesome!!!
