Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Review by JF7X
"PS Puzzle Fighters"
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is (I think) Capcom's first puzzle game. However I could be wrong. But if it is then it's also Capcom's most known puzzle game. Released in November 30, 1996, this game has nothing to do with Capcom's Gem Fighter game, since it has no fighting at all. The objective of the game is like any puzzle game, don't let the blocks get to the top. However in this game it's also about forcing your opponent blocks going to the top (similar to SNK's puzzle bobble). In this game, the object is to make big blocks and then breaking them so more blocks fall on your opponent's side. Each time the blocks fall they will be a bomb type form: a timer that will start from 5 and count down to 1. After one, they just become normal blocks ine which your opponent can use against you. Depending on your block size that you break, your character will do their own special move against the other player as the timer blocks fall on their side. There are only 8 characters to choose from in the game, 4 from the Street Fighter series and 4 from the Vampire Savior. From Street Fighter's there is: Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, and Sakura. From the Vampire Savior game there is: Hsing Ko, Felicia, Morgan, and Donnovan. Each character has their own unique way of dropping the time blocks on their opponents (when you are selecting your character it will you show you their drop positions). The game itself has 9 stage, but if you set it to easy you will only play half the game. Through out the game it has some intermissions of different characters doing some thing funny/corny. Besides the original 8 characters there are 5 extra playable people. They are: Akuma, Dan, and Devileta, Lin-Lin, and Anita.
Controls 9/10: The controls for the game are: D-pad for moving the gems left or right. the X button is for moving the gem pieces in a different order, and the start button is for starting.
Music 8/10: Each character has their own theme songs and stages which is kind of neat.
This puzzle game is very fun and addicting. It's also funny to see the chibi version of each character do their attacks on each other. However I don't think this game is worth $20-$35 on Ebay.
