""Help the Easter Bunny battle his foes and deliver eggs to all the children!""
There's really not all that much to say about Easter Bunny's Big Day. Obviously, we all know what "Easter Bunny's Big Day" symbolizes - the Easter holiday. And, from the title, you can basically figure out what you need to do; assist the Easter Bunny in making sure his "Big Day" is successful. Being as that's the goal you've been tasked with, it's your job as the player to make sure that the white rabbits day is successful, and success is gauged by how many eggs you put into the hands of eager children that are quite simply elated to see this hipity-hoppity bunny.
You guide the famed rabbit through a series of challenges that get progressively more challenging as the game progresses. However, don't expect any serious challenge from the game - it is a children's title. Also, don't expect anything in terms of serious graphics or solid design. This game is aimed at Walmart-shopping parents looking for a little extra to toss in their children's baskets.
The 3D environments are horrendously grainy and blocky. The game tries to deliver expansive 3D environments that are reminiscent of games like Mario 64, but the PlayStation just isn't the system for it (and I'm not sure the developers are the developers for it). Everything looks terrible. Most of the children in the game are carbon-copies of each other and all of them are so happy that it's almost sickening. It was like you were delivering eggs to an army of elated clones.
Easter Bunny's Big Day isn't just a simple walk in the park. Not only will you have to navigate over or around countless obstacles that exists in this fictional world, but you'll also have to battle enemies. Though you may not have known it, the Easter Bunny has a variety of enemies that are hell-bent on ruining Easter. Why would anyone have beef with a guy that delivers pastel eggs to children? The dastardly villain in this title was skipped over by the Easter Bunny one Easter!
The lame storyline is appropriate for the game, but there's no excuse for control issues this late in the PlayStation's life. The controls are very problematic. Attacking enemies involves jumping on them, but it's awfully challenging to crush your foes because the controls are sloppy and the camera makes it difficult to determine how near or far you are from your enemy. Often, you'll land just before them, putting you in a perilous position.
That said, I think the target audience will still probably find this game enjoyable. I'm much more critical than the traditional player will be. Controls and graphics aside, this is a rather pleasant and enjoyable game that's incredibly inoffensive in every way, which is surprising. You would think a game about Easter would be a little religious, but the entire package completely secularizes the holiday, which I found incredibly interesting. If you're in the market for an Easter game, I can't suggest a better title.
