Incredible Crisis
Review by wolverinefan
"A quirky japanese game...."
Incredible Crisis is one of those quirky little gems from Japan. It's a collection of wacky mini games. Is it worth hunting a copy down though? Or is it a title best left forgotten? Read on!
Our poor father figure is having a normal day until all hell breaks loose and everything that could go wrong does. Boulder chases, crazy cranes, crashing elevators. It's a horrible day for not only our father figure but his entire family. It really isn't a story per say but whatever it is, it works.
Graphic wise this game still looks good despite it being a PS1 game. Character animations are smooth. Characters look interesting if not a bit grainy. Everything is very anime like in its presentation.
The game offers some amusing sound effects and music. Nothing to really write home about but it delivers what is needed for the game. It's a quirky and interesting set up in the sound department.
Control is always important in a mini game title. While the control is usually really responsive in this game, there are a few times where it isn't. Also, some of the control set ups for the mini games, like the final one, really because hand cramps as it had you trying to do too much, quickly and in weird positions on the controller.
The game is pretty much just a bunch of mini games. Story related of course but mini games none the less. They vary in types be it shooting down missiles or by doing your morning dance routine, since we all know that's the first thing you do with your co-workers in an office environment.
It's not that the mini games are bad. They are actually fairly well done. The problem is that some are really tough and early on. Also some are just unfair like the elevator one which has you button mashing to raise a meter but you will also need to dodge items falling at you which also stops you from filling the meter.
Of course I must admit this is one of the best mini game based games out there still since it contains a plot and has a very nice variety of mini games. The game took me a while to finish because I kept losing on a few different missions. It's in no way an easy game. Once you beat it you can replay all of the mini games and there is a good amount of them as well.
I can't really recommend Incredible Crisis. It's a bit too flawed to hunt a copy down but if you happen upon a copy for cheap it might be worth checking into if you're into those quirky Japanese games. I don't exactly regret buying the game but I could have used the money for a better cause.
