"A classic for the PS1"

I remember back when it first came out, Jumping Flash was one of those one of a kind games. Even today nothing on the market comes close to it. Is it as good as I remembered or is it one of those games that just haven't aged well? Read on!

Robbit is a member of a space police like agency. The evil Mr. Aloha is trying to capture the colonies and use them for his own needs. Or something likes that. It's a rather silly story but it's a game where you play as a robot rabbit that needs to collect jetpacks...

The game does look dated with its blocky and limited objects. On the other hand it looks impressive for being one of the original PS1 games. The levels have a decent draw distance, enemies look interesting and the worlds have themes. Hell, even the color scheme is rather nice.

The sound in the game is really fun. The music is catchy but nothing I'd buy. The voice work is full of cheese and it's just fun with the plot. I'm actually surprised the game had spoken dialog. The sound effects are also amusing. In all seriousness, nothing in this game can be taken seriously.

Control in the game is simple. You can jump, shoot and throw an item. Very easy. You control Robbit with the left stick or d-pad. It's smooth but the game lakes a strafing button but I never found that I even thought about needing to strafe. Control is very easy and perfect for just picking it up and playing.

Jumping Flash offers the most basic of gaming ideas. There game is made up of 6 worlds with three areas in each. Each area has you jumping through the air hunting for the 3 jet packs. Really that's all you do but it's the exhilarating feel of jumping way up into the air and landing on an enemy or platform.

You can also shoot the enemies with your blaster but to be honest the enemies aren't really a concern. The bosses do provide a fun challenge and I really like how fast paced the entire game is. The stages all contain a 10 minute timer to find the 3 jet packs but it's more than enough.

The levels all have the typical theme of desert, space, ECT. But they just feel interesting when you're playing in them. Yes they are a bit uninspired in their themes but the stage design is interesting at least.

The game is kind of short but once you beat the game you unlock a harder mode. To be honest though I've played through this game twice and just talking about it makes me want to play through it again. That is a rare thing in deed.

To be honest I will admit right here that this is one of the best games on the PS1. It's totally worth finding a copy of it or you can just buy it from the Playstation store and play it on your PSP or PS3. Either way, make a point to play this excellent game.
