MediEvil II
Review by Jeff AKA Snoopy
"A great game, yet..."
Ha ha, a great game, ha ha. (Later) Heh, this is cool. (Even later) God, this is getting boring.
That is perfect for this game. It starts off really cool. I mean, who doesn't like a walking skeleton who can rip off his arm, and hit people with it. But, as the levels go by, the game get's really repetitive. A great game, none-the-less.
STORY: 10/10
It leads you from when you defeated an evil scorcerer, to being asleep in a mausoleum. This was in 1363, I think. Anyway, the time is now 1886, and you are in a museum in now England. As kids run by you, and say stupid things like ''Jeepers'', a man is secretly trying to discover the where-a-bouts of the mysterious book that made our evil scorcerer well, evil. He finds it, and you find yourself awakened by a little ghost. He tells you that something odd is going on, and to look around the museum. After a fight with a dino, you are taken to the professeur, who tells you that this man has taken the evil Black Magic book, and you are supposed to save the world. *sigh* here we go again....
GAMEPLAY: 9/10
Very simple. That's enough to explain this game. You walk around, and slash and kill things, while solving puzzles in big game arena's. Anyway, the controls are fairly simple. You can jump, do weapon attacks, secondary weapon attacks (hold down O for these) and other things. Also, the ability to move the camera SOMETIMES is very nice. The one thing about this game is camera angles. They are horrible. I mean, I died 3 times on the same jump because where-ever you are, it will suddenly change the angle so that you go from jumping forward to left in about 2 seconds, it's very frusturating. Half the time, you can't move the camera, and you can't see what's in front of you. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
GRAPHICS: 8/10
Not bad. The ability to lose one's limb, and still fight, impressive. I am referring to zombies, as you cut them, there limbs are loftted off, yet they still fight. Also, the buildings and what-not look like they woould have come from about 1876, and that is hard to do. However, they just aren't polished enough. Some parts can be very pixeled, and others just look chunky.
AUDIO: 8/10
Very simply put, either horrendous, or beautiful. The overall sound is good, but it isn't without it's problems. The sound-effects, while OK, are very expected, and that takes away from the sound. The music is very good, shadowing the feel of the situation. If you are supposed to be anxious, the music is. If it's supposed to be funny, god knowws the music is.
REPLAYABILITY: 6/10
Not a heck of alot for this, since depending on how you play the game, it's easy to get everything in pretty much a rental...and that is bad. However, you may very well miss a whole bunch of stuff with Dan-Hand, which is really cool. So, try it.
OTHERS: 7/10
Like in replay value, this is totally based on how you look at the game. If you think getting alll the weapons is essential for winning, then you'll do it on your first pass. But, on the other hand, if you go for speed, you WILL NOT get all the weapons, and that is the truth.
OVERALL 8/10
Well, a great game, but very easy. The simplicity takes down from Others and Replay Value, so that is the reason for the lower mark than it should be.
