Legend of Legaia
Review by bbadnavyseal
"Legend is correct"
I remember when I first played this game, I was at a buddy's house and he had just rented it. As soon as we started playing I was hooked onto that game. We stayed up until 3am playing that game. Sadly it had to be returned and we didn't see that game since. Until just a couple of years ago I stumbled onto a used copy and I paid about $18.00 for it. It was well worth it and then some. This is truly an RPG game that created it own unique class of RPG. The only other game that I know of that is like Legend of Legaia is Legaia 2 Duel Saga.
Storyline 10/10
The storyline for this game is perfect, though I have seen similar storylines. While in the mist you are attacked by stronger monsters etc. I believe it was like that in one of the final fantasy games.
There is an evil mist that houses great and terrible creatures. People have been dying because of the monsters that dwell in the mist. In spread throughout the world are special tree's called Genesis Trees. And within 3 of these trees dwell what are called Ra-Seru. Which help the characters on their journey? The characters Vahn, Noa and Gala set off on a journey to rid the mist from the planet.
Graphics: 7/10 (For the new standards nowadays it's not that bad.)
The graphics are polygons, think graphics like Final Fantasy 7 when you are walking around, but when you get into a battle the graphics improve greatly. The animations of the battle run pretty smoothly. The Landscape needs a bit of work but it's not so terrible that you can't play.
Sound: 7/10
The sound is pretty decent, the game does not have voiceovers except in battle with the characters Kiai's and when the characters do speak in battle when they get hurt badly is in Japanese. And in my opinion it fits very well.
Control: 10/10
Gameplay/Funfactor: 10/10
Now this is where the game shines, the world map controls are about the same of most RPG's. But where this game shines is its battle system. The battle system is Turned based like that of the Final Fantasy series but with one major twist. Instead of just pushing one button to attack, you input a combo using the directional pad on the controller and they character will perform accordingly. You lean new moves from scrolls and others in the game etc. but you also experiment on your own. That's what the best part is; each character has a different fighting style or their own. It is a truly unique experience
I would recommend this game to any RPG fan; it is well worth what I bought it for and then some. I stumbled upon it by luck. It's hard to find now due to the fact that most game stores don't sell Playstation one games anymore. I would try ebay if you are interested in purchasing this game.
