The World is not Enough

Review by KasketDarkfyre

"A PSX Owners dream"

-Visuals 10/10-

Finally, Bond the way it should be played, from the first person perspective, looking over the barrel of a gun. Putting you in a first person perspective, this game plays more like the original Goldeneye of Nintendo 64 fame, and the PSX does this version justice. Giving you vastly detailed stages, well designed weapons, and characters that aren’t blocky and look like lego-men, you’re given a roller coaster ride that is well worth looking at. To add to this, you’re treated to actual movie scenes via FMV that are of excellent quality. The frame rate is unbelievably fast, and you’ll be struggling to find something this good on the PSX, surpassing even the Medal of Honor games.

-Audio 9/10-

Action game music rolled across several stages that match the tempo of what you’re playing. If it be the mellow, incognito sneak-past-security stage, or the fast paced, downhill skiing ride, you’re given a wide variety of music that keeps your interest in the game. Sound effects include various voice clips, explosions, gun-fire and the blaring of alarms that sound great and move with a surround sound system. You can’t beat this with a stick save for a couple of rare games.

-Control 10/10-

The control is near perfect, allowing you the “precision-aiming” of the various weapons, and moving through the stages, either by straight forward movement, or by strafing leaves nothing to chance. Using the analog control makes the aiming a breeze, although the weapon switching could use a little work. Putting you in control of Bond, and going up against various enemies, you have the option of running at them head on, and firing away at them, or you can go into “sniper-mode” and pick them off at a distance. Either way, the aiming control is right on the money, as is the rest of the button configurations.

-Game Play 10/10-

An action game at its finest, your goal is to make it through the stages, and defeat the stage requirements to move onto the next level. The difficulty level is set at such, that you’re given a challenge, but not too much to where you’re fighting for survival every step of the way. In certain stages, you’ll be required to escort an important person, or rescue someone else. Other stages require you to chase down, and eliminate a rogue agent or keep them from escaping. In any case, you’re given several different game “types” to play all through-out the game.

Unfortunately, you’re not given any sort of multi-player option, but in the end, you really don’t need one. The game itself centers around various items or objects that you may have to find or unlock, and then from there, you’re treated to a short movie scene that is taken right from the movie after a stage that you’ve defeated. To say the least, you’re given a true movie-to-game conversion, and you’ll never be wondering the same question that most games that follow a movie have: “Where the hell was this?”

-Overall 10/10-

This game is about as close to perfect as a Bond game can get. With the last Bond game being a complete crap-fest, you’re given control of a game that ranks up there with GoldenEye. You’ll be humming the Bond tune away from the rental store if you rent it, but for what it’s worth, you’d be better off to pick up a copy of this game as a permanent addition to your gaming library. With several different secrets to unlock, and the actual in-game challenge that World Is Not Enough has to offer, you won’t be sorry with your decision.
