Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Review by ATadeo
"This first one is great, but this one is Excellent!"
Just when you thought the first game was a blast. This game boasts more that the first Lunar game. Join Hiro and Ruby in their quest to help a woman named-Lucia in the search for Althena to be able to protect and save the world from an evil being named Zophar. Here are the criteria that I used to judge this game.
Gameplay/Controls (10 pts): Now, this is what I call a real RPG. You get to control your characters and go through dungeons and dangerous paths throughout the adventure. You interact with the people and also to your surroundings. There are also secrets in the game that add to the excitement in playing the game. One good improvement here is that navigating inside dungeons and on the world map is a lot easier compared to the first game as well as other RPGs. But, this game's boss battle gives new meaning to it. Other RPGs, actually most of them, have bosses that can easily be beaten at high levels. Not this one. The bosses are smart and they have strong attacks. They adjust to the level and abilities of your party and they have a high HP plus most of them has more than 1 form. You'll really feel that it is a boss fight. Other RPG elements to take into consideration also are the equipments and the different items and special items that are necessary in finishing the game. Everything about the gameplay is great. For the controls, navigating is very much easier with the help of the Analog controller. The menus are easy to use and moving around is a cinch!
Storyline (10): This game's storyline is nothing short of excellent. It has a nice story that will keep you playing until you see the next part of the story. It also has nice flashbacks and citations from the first Lunar.
Graphics/Sounds (8 pts): Although the graphics of the game is in a 3D environment and the objects, characters, and the rest are 2D, it doesn't compromise the gameplay value of the game however simple it is. It's sort of nice to look at especially the Anime type FMV that are shown. For the sounds, the voices of the characters are nice as well as the sound effects during battles.
Replay Value (7 pts): For the replayability of the game, it's kind of odd to re-play it as the game is quite hard with regards to the enemies and bosses. Nevertheless, you can try a new game and to sorts of things like getting all treasures and secrets, etc. I don't suggest re-playing it though.
As a conclusion, if you want a nice and complete RPG, this game is the right one to pick. You'll enjoy every second of your time while playing and you'll never get bored with the story especially if you have knowledge about the first game. So, go out now and play this amazing game from Working Designs.
