Robo Pit
Review by Armored Core Expert
"A very unique and fun game"
Robo Pit is a 3D robot fighting game where cute robots beat each other up. That's pretty much the premise of the game. There really isn't a plot to speak of, but who cares? This game is FUN!!!! Did I mention that you get to make your robot?
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics in this game are standard 1996 fare. They're fairly blocky by today's standards, and the backgrounds are a little bland. They serve their purpose, though. The robots in this game aren't menacing. They're fairly cute.
When it comes time to build your robot, the UI for the assembly is quite good. You choose your robot's head type, then the eyes, then from a wide assortment of legs. (anything from standard humanoid legs to tanks, motorcycles, cars, spider legs and springs.)
Control: 9/10
There really aren't any problems with this game's control. Your robots are easy to control and special moves are easy to pull off. There really isn't anything confusing about it at all.
Gameplay: 9/10
You build a robot out of lots of different parts. You fight against 100 enemies in your quest to be the top bot. You get one of your opponent's weapons if you win. There are lots of different types of weapons. You can get guns, cannons, lasers, swords, maces, axes, crossbows, guns that shoot tiny little Teketeke robots. If you lose, they can take one of yours. There's also a fine vs. mode. As your CPU opponents get more experienced, they get more difficult. The final boss is far more difficult to defeat than any other opponent in the game.
Along the way in your quest for the top slot, you have the choice to fight optional bosses. These bosses have parts that you rarely find equipped on regular enemies. The catch is that these bosses are harder than your average enemy bot.
Sound & Music: 7/10
The music is allright. If they made a soundtrack, I would buy it, but not too many other people would. The menu music gets annoying after a while. Each of the arenas has its own theme, and the music is well suited for each enviroment. The sound effects aren't bad, but they could have been done better. They sound rather muffled.
Overall: 8/10
This game isn't perfect, but it isn't shoddy either. There are a few graphical flaws, and the cuteness of your robots turns some people off. However, if you would like a new twist on the fighting genre, Robo Pit is it.
