Mega Man Legends
Review by HM64Schezo
"Mega Man in 3-D? Can it be done?"
When I first bought a Playstation, Mega Man Legends was my first game for the system. The game definately gave me a good attitude toward the Playstation from then on! All I can say here, I gave this game all 9s in every area. So, the final score is of course, 9!
Gameplay- 9
It is pretty easy to tell about the excellent Gameplay in this game. Just think about Zelda mixed in with Mega Man, and you get Mega Man Legends. Now in my opinion, I think Mega Man Legends is much more fun than the current Zelda games for the N64 (No, I'm not bashing N64, keep in mind that I am a fan of N64 games as well as PSX games). The game doesn't seem to be as long, but there is definately more variety in it. There are a few mini-games in it, and the towns are really fun to explore. Not to mention, you'll be busy doing little side-quests throughout the entire game!
The play control may be just a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll notice that the game actually has excellent control! Just keep your fingers on the L1 and R1 buttons at all times!
The challenge in the game is average, but this can be adjusted after you beat the game. Still, there are a few parts here and there that will confuse you if you don't have the right equipment! Even the main boss of the game is very difficult if you don't have the correct weapon (Nope, I'm not telling, but you'll eventully find out!)
Story- 9
I really like the story to the game. Mega Man, Roll, Barell, and their pet Robo-Monkey named Data go off to find out clues about Roll's parents and the Motherlode, but due to some engine problems with the Flutter, Mega Man and the gang crash land on an island. They were all invited into the city where they find many ruins, reaverbots, and pirates! Yes, Pirates! The pirates are the best part of the story after all. They are a part of the Bonne family. There is Teisel, the oldest of the Bonnes, Tron, the one stuck in the middle, and there is Bon Bonne, the youngest, but he is just a big robo-baby. Whenever you see the Bonnes, get ready for a comedy scene, or a fight scene.. It just depends on what mood they are in!
Audio/Video- 9
Very very nice! The graphics are a bit hard to explain... It is like you are in a 3-D anime title. The characters aren't flat, but they are in 3-D, yet they still look like they are from a regular 2-D anime title.. See? Hard to explain! Here is the part about the graphics I like best! There are NO FMVs! The movie scenes are just made out of polygons, no fancy computer animated masterpiece.
I love the voices in the game as well! The actors/actresses didn't get the mouth movements on very good, but still, the voice actors are very good. What about the Sound Effects and Music? They were done very nicely too. The Reaverbots make a surprising sound whenever you encounter them, just so you'll know that there is one near you. How helpful! The music in the game is never annoying at all, some tracks are very enjoyable (Like the music whenever you find the Bonnes!) and there are also levels that do not have music. You'll be in a lot of ruins, and I don't think that very many ruins have music too them, just creepy robotic-cave sounds. When you are in an outside area, there is no music either, just the sound of birds chirping and such.
Replay Value- 9
When you beat the game, is that it? No way! You've still got many missions to complete. It is difficult to solve them all, are you up to it? When you do find them all, is that the end? Not at all. You'll be able to open up a HARD difficulty level after you beat the game. Good deal. I usually come back to the game for the great movie clips in between scenes. The load time for this game is decent as well, so you won't find yourself becoming bored while tring to find the missing artifacts.
Rent or Buy?
I say buy it. The game is too much fun to just rent it. Unfortunately, by the time you all have read this review, the game will be very hard to find for the PSX. I haven't seen the game anywhere for a while. There is a N64 version of the game coming out soon, so you might want to check out that one! It has everything the PSX version has, including the massive ammount of speech that is said throughout the game, and I also heard that it has a little more extra to it. Check it out sometime!
