Review by Kamedaki
"A game only worth a two-day rental."
Before I start, I am reviewing this from a mainly one-player point of view, since the large majority of gamers play games one player. I rented this game for two days (And beat it), just in case you how I came to play this game. I rented this game mainly on the review from IGN. With that now said, I begin my review..
STORY: 3/10: After being kicked around for awhile by the Rebellion and mysterious (There always has to be someone mysterious...)Xaja, the evil Imperium decides to use a weapon that destroys entire planets. Just your usual Sci-Fi ''rebels-against-empire'' type of story. There's no character development: You're basically a guy who beats the tar out of some Imperium scum. One good thing, is the plot twist on level 5.....
CONTROL: 10/10: The controls are easy to learn, and I haven't found a problem with them yet.
SOUND 3/10:
MUSIC: Repeat after me: ''Du, da, de, dum, duh, do.'' In case you're wondering, that's what the music consists of: Those sounds in any order.
SOUND: The sounds are good. One annoying point is the commander. His voice must have been there just to be funny, but I found him annoying.
GAMEPLAY: 4/10: You can call up units, build stuff, and do base duties, but the strategy part of the gameplay seems hollow. It's mainly just blowing **** up, and believe me: No matter how much you enjoy it, blowing **** up gets old. All the levels seem the same, which also lowers the score.
GRAPHICS: 7/10: This score is above average. It doesn't push the limits of the psx, but it doesn't suck....
REPLAYABILITY: 4/10: While the One Player holds absolutely nothing in this department, the two player holds some. You can deathmatch, run stuff over, and other things. Unfortunately, you have to find someone who wants to play you...
FUN FACTOR: 3/10: While the two player if worth some fun, the one player mode is only good for one spin....
Total score rounded up: 5/10
Buy or rent: RENT: It's a game only worth a two day rental. I only suggest buying this game if you have someone to play in multiplayer.
What the developers should have done to make this game better:
1: Added more depth to the strategy part of the game: A game that's all action eventually gets boring.
2: Increased the enemy AI: It is extremely stupid, but instead of making them more cunning (For instance, baiting you into traps, or calling for backup), the developers just made it to where the enemies appear out of nowhere, usually at the worst spot. There's nothing more annoying than when a zeppelin appears right behind your convoy ship, completely destroying it.
3: Made the story better: How about going more into the main character's personality? At least, give him a name....
Also, they should have 4: added more diversity to the music: ''De da da da de'' grates on the nerves....
...And with that, I finish my review...
