"Switch on!"

Anyone remember Getter Robo? You know, that 70's robot anime with three ships combining into one which left you thinking that it was geometrically impossible to merge like they did. Well, this PlayStation turn-based strategy-RPG game will help revive your memories on Getter Robo and all it's incarnations.

Graphics: 9/10
The in-game graphics are so-so and nothing too memorable. The mecha models are large blocky 3D figures and I wasn't at all impressed. How did this game get so high in graphics then? As soon as you boot up the game and the company logos show up, you will be treated to some excellent eye-candy. The DVD quality anime intro is just amazing. Awesome animation, I couldn't believe the intro wasn't from a Dreamcast game. The character art is still 70's style and not modernized which will keep hard-core fans happy. The grid map is a standard SRW map, nothing special. But the intro....damn.

Sound: 9/10
Awesome opening song to start off all the music. Music is good throughout, however, there are some clunkers which are either repetitive or annoying. Music is fine. The voices however, are extremely cool. Like the Super Robot Wars games, the game hired all the original seiyuu(voice actors)of the anime! Everyone from Ryoma, to Gou to Musashi have their original 70's seiyuu lending their voices to these memorable characters. What a trip down memory lane!

Story: 7/10
Many of you guys don't know how to read Japanese so you probably won't care if you don't know the story anyway. Good story though. Decent enough to read through if you know how to read Japanese.

Gameplay: 6/10
Standard Super Robot Wars gameplay. It's a turn-based strategy-RPG with animations when you attack an enemy. These 3D animations use the in-game graphics. Also, unlike SUper Robot Wars, EVERY attack uses EP(in this game, known as GE)so it gets quite difficult. SRW rip-off otherwise. It's not as fun though as it can get quite reptitive. All you see are Getter Robots. What made Super Robot Wars cool is that you see several mecha, from old-school ones like Combattler V to modern mechs like the Wing Gundam boys. You will get quite bored of seeing Getter Robo and it's incarnations over and over and over....(unless of course you are a hardcore fan). Thankfully, there is a mini-game which allows you to control the Getter robo ships as the merge together. It's like a simulation of being part of the Getter team, piloting ships and then merging them. There are various stages for you to merge in. From a wide open field(easy) to a narrow city skyway at night(hard). I like the mini-game a lot. Hard-core fans will probably like it much better.

Replay Value: 6/10
After you beat it, nothing to come back and play it again is present except if you really like Getter Robo or for nostalgic reasons.

Total: 7/10
This game could have been great but it fell short. The game fell apart after a few missions because it was too repetitive. You might like it though if you're a hard-core fan but casual fans, you may not like this game.
