Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi
Review by Walker Boh Ohmsford
"Mortal Kombat with Star Wars characters..."
Ok, a longtime fan of Star Wars...well, maybe not that long, only about five years, maybe six, I wanted to try this game. I did, and here's what I think
Gameplay 10-10. You are one of many characters from Star Wars movies or commic books, and you must face off against many others in Mortal Kombat style fights. There are even five hidden characters that you can fight and even play as if you can unlock them. Each has his/her own special moves, but Han Solo and the Storm Trooper both have the same moves, as do Jodo Cast and Boba Fet. Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade have pretty much the same moves as well, except that Mara can shoot lightning like Darth Vader.
Control 8-10. Some of the moves are a pain to pull off, like Thock's growing flame attack thingy and Hor's spear attack where he unloads on you a whole bunch and usually kicks your ass.
Music 10-10. The music's right out of the movies and it's well done. I wish I could say the same about the sound.
Sound Effects 7-10. The Light Sabers sound cool, but there's not much sound to them like in the movies. There's no change in pitch when you swing it, just a slightly louder hum. Nor do two sabers make those wonderful shocking and clashing sounds when they meet in combat like they did in the movies. There's just one clash sound, that's it, and almost no other sound from them unless you hit someone, and it's just a somewhat lame shocking sound. The voices are cool, even though all of them aren't out of the movies. Luke and Leia sound most like their movie counterparts. Han Solo's voice is pretty well done, but Boba Fet and Darth Vader don't sound nearly as good as their movie counterparts. Well...Vader's breathing apparatus does. Unfortunately, the announcer's voice can become very anoying, and it's not even that annoying two-headed guy from Phantom Menace. The other SFX are very well done, however. Blasters sound as good as in the movies, and Arden Lynn's robotic hand sounds cool. Her voice is cool, too. like all the characters, she taunts her fallen opponent when she wins a match. She usually says, ''I shall be triumphant!'' or, ''You are a pitiful fighter!''
Story 8-10. It takes place after the destruction of the first Death Star. The Emperor has ordered swift retaliation. Darth Vader orders his apprentice, Arden Lynne, to take out key members of the alliance. Arden however, has her own ambitions. You can play as everybody, even Vader, but you have to unlock a few of them.
Overall 7-10. An Ok game that could have been a good deal better.
