"It's like watching a two hour episode..."

The X-Files...a strange show that has gotten nothing but more confusing in the past 6 or so years than any other television show out there today. With a movie spin off, as well as other shows that spin away from characters featured on the television show, you'll find that this game isn't exactly a run 'n gun action game. More or less a full scale show, where the gamer chooses what happens and which way the game moves. A one-timer, there isn't much of a replay value for anyone to really sink their teeth into.

-Visuals 8/10-

A damn good showing of the X-Files can be found here with full-motion point and click style playing. Everything that you do shows a different set of full motion scenes, but be aware that there isn't any real in game action to watch. Again, you're more or less watching a television show in which you click on what happens. The storyline falls between the fifth and sixth season, in which several of the regular stars make their appearence, and you interact with them all.

-Audio 8/10-

Eerie music and plenty of voice overs is what will greet the ears. Most people can't get enough of the theme music from the X-Files, and it can all be found here, from the beginning theme, down to the actual in-between music that the show features with it's suspenseful highs and lows that can be found throughout the show itself.

-Control 8/10-

A simple point and click interface with nothing much in terms of actually having to learn intracate control. There are no special moves, no fatalities and nothing else. This can alliviate any real steep learning curve against a beginning gamer. The different options fall between arresting people, questioning them, and even having to use your weapon at certain points of the game.

-Game Play 8/10-

It's a point and click game that feature an X-Files theme and storyline set in a season of the show. You're looking for Mulder and Scully, and chasing the black oil alien that is killing people off. Doesn't sound too interesting, and even though you're looking more or less at the show, the storyline is what will draw you in. However, once you've been through the game one time, there isn't a replay value for you to go back through and play again.

-Overall 8/10-

Most of what you pay for here, is the storyline and the license and not so much what you do in the game. Spanning across several discs, you'll find that the storyline is enough to keep you riveted, but not enough spend the money on this game. A rental only, you'll find the enjoyment only one time through, and then after that, it's not worth playing again. Fans of the series may want this just because of the license alone, and will play it every so often just to relive the storyline, if nothing else..

Regardless...the truth is out there. About this game anyway.
