007: The World is not Enough
Review by AlucardX
"Really Really Underrated"
I picked up this game used for 15 bucks at my local blockbuster. I didn't play it, but I really wanted another shooter for my PSX. I beat both Medal of Honors, Syphon Filters, and the immortal Metal Gear Solid, and It had been a few months since i've played a game like that. So, on a chance, I picked up TWINE, and i'm glad I did. The game is really fun, and really addicting.
One thing you'll notice in TWINE is the framerate. The framerate is great, and moves very smoothly. It even moves smoother than Medal of Honor's framerate. This is great for any PSX owner looking for a nice, smooth FPS. The graphics also look good, and the sound is great.
Another thing is the real time cutscenes from the movie. This adds a nice touch. The cutscenes are taken directly out of the movie, and they look really cool.
The gameplay is standard FPS fare. You go through corridors, shoot enimies, and solve various objectives. There are also plenty of gadgets here, and many weapons. The only real problem here is the way the gadgets and weapons are placed together in the same inventory. This can get frustrating when you need to get out a gun quickly to take out an enemy, when you are currently using a gadget to open something.
Yes, there is no multiplayer mode, so quit whining. The PSX DOES NOT handle FPS multiplayer well. Remember how much fun you had playing Medal of Honor's 2 player deathmatch?
The missions are fun and challenging, and with the 2 difficultites, it should last you about a month, but, since the game is quite fun, I'm sure it will be back in your PSX many times.
So, you're probaly wondering, which to pick up, the 64 version?, or the PSX version? I have played both, and I'd say go either way. The PSX version has a better, more fun single player, while the 64 version has the multiplayer. However, the multiplayer in the 64 version is nothing you haven't seen before, in fact, it was done better in both Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark. My friend has the 64 version, and, I can quite honestly say, I had more fun with the PSX version. Basically, since the PSX version has the better single player. The 64 version is still good however, it just isn't as good as 2 other shooters on the 64.
So, in all, TWINE for PSX is underrated, and quite a lot of fun. Still, it's probaly not worth the 40 dollar asking price, and it certainly isn't Goldeneye for the PSX, but if you find it for less than 20 bucks, it's well worth it.
