F1 2000

"A Game That Could Have Been Great But Thanks To Crappy Framerate Horribly Suffers..."
Being a sports fan, I love playing all kinds of sports games from soccer to racing. I rarely get to play F1 games because there aren't that many on the market. Before playing F1 2000, I was expecting a great game for two reasons. I knew that most of EA Sports games were marvelous and I knew that F1 games were fun to play. Expecting a good game, I was disappointed from the start.
Graphics-wise, F1 2000 isn't bad. All of the courses are nicely detailed and the cars look pretty nice. While playing, I found that the cars seem to be floating in the air though. It seems like they never touched the ground. Also, there were some minor clipping issues especially by the walls.
The key ingredient to a racing game is it's frame-rate. If a game has a bad frame-rate, the game sucks automatically. When playing F1 2000 it seems like you are going as fast as you can walk. When your speed odometer reads 175 mph, it seems like you are going 10 mph. Other than the horrible framerate, F1 2000 has a championship mode, two player mode, and a time trial mode.
Another key ingredient for a good racing game is it's control. The control in F1 2000 isn't bad, but it isn't good. In some views, especially the in-the-car view, it's impossible to drive. Your driver's hands are moving around so much, you can't tell how much to turn. Other than that, the control scheme isn't bad and after a few races you'll know what you're doing.
When loading up F1 2000 you'll hear some foreign music which sounds British. I didn't care for it at all. While racing, you'll hear your motor running and sometimes your pit-crew talking to you. The bad thing about your pit-crew is that they talk in a heavy British accent. I didn't like it at all, and you probably won't either.
After reading this review you are probably wondering if this game is worth a rent. If you like racing games with formula one cars then you should give this game a rent. If not, steer clear from this game and go find another racing game that suits your racing needs.
