Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001
Review by DreThug
"You Call This Baseball?"
Last year I heard of a game called Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball. I saw advertisements on television saying how good the game was. Then I read some reviews on the game and they said the game sucked. When I got Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 I expected a crappy game just like the original. After playing it, I rather watch paint dry then play this game.
Remember back in the Super Nintendo days when baseball players were just starting to look like themselves in games? Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 has graphics just like that. The graphics are so poor that I couldn't stand playing the game. The field looked ugly, the crowd looked really crappy, and the animations, if any, were choppy. I saw better graphics in first generation baseball games for Playstation then in this game.
Gameplay-wise, Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 isn't bad. 3DO tried to make the most realistic baseball game on the market. It seems like 3DO wanted to make this game a pitchers duel rather then a high scoring baseball game. I didn't like the whole idea of this and got bored of Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 fast.
As we all know from the televison advertisements for this game, Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 tries to be very realistic. I didn't like the idea of not moving my batter around, having to swing up, average, or down, and trying to guess where the ball was going to be pitched. While others may like the control because it seems really realistic, I rather play a fun baseball game like Triple Play 2001 or MLB 2001.
After playing all these baseball games with a lot of music in them, I was hoping that Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 had some good songs in it. Sadly, there was no music in the game. While playing in a game, you'll hear the announcer say strike, ball, out, and stuff like that. I could play this game with the music on or off and not hear the difference.
I know that some people will see this game advertised on TV and beg their mom to buy it for them. I am telling you not to waste your hard earned money for this piece of crap. Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 isn't worth a rent and it's certainly not worth buying. Stay clear from this game, and pick up another baseball game instead.
