Thousand Arms

Review by Sheepster

"Not worth your time."

Introduction:
Well, I've played some horrible RPGs, but this one ranks up there with the worst of them. How some one could enjoy this is really beyond me.

Graphics: 6
The Playstation is capable of doing much better. The backgrounds are sometimes pretty well done, but most of the time it seems incredibly out-dated, even for a game made in 1999. Then there are the anime scenes, which are cool, I guess, but there aren't enough of them outside of the dating game.
Now I really have a problem with the characters, mainly because they are too small, and the head seems disproportionate to the size of the body.

Story: 2

Well, you begin as Meis, who appears to be drunk or something, walking down the street, mumbling various things about how it is ''all their fault.'' From what I can tell, Meis is the son of the ruler of Kant, and was, for whatever reason, kicked out. Later on, Meis learns that he must protect the Holy Flames from the Dark Acolytes. Uh, it's been done before.

Gameplay: 4

The gameplay is certainly unique, but who said that was always a good thing? The battle system is completely messed up. Only one person actually fights the enemy. The others just sit back, cast spells, and heal whoever is up front. This brings me up to another problem: magic is useless. I never once encountered a spell that was more powerful than my sword attack, and I never needed to be healed. You will also get into a battle every 2 seconds, which becomes incredibly boring.

Now, the dating system I liked. You basically go to the Goddess Statue, located in every town, and pick girl you want to date. Once you have selected a girl, you can choose from Date, present, and mini game. Each girl has a different mini game, and each girl reacts differently to specific presents. Once you choose date they will follow you until you reach a ''date spot.'' The girl will then ask you a series of questions (funny ones) and you must make a choice between answer A. and B. The answer is pretty obvious most of the time. Once you are done your intimacy level with the girl will go either go up, down, or stay the same, depending on how you answered her questions. Some questions will be repeated. After words, you can go to a blacksmith, where you make your weapons. (duh) The strength of the weapon and the skills all depend on the intimacy level of the girl who you are forging with.

What REALLY brought this game down was the fact that leveling up is far too easy, and unnecessary.

Control: 9

No problem here, except the crappy camera angles.

Challenge: Low.

Expect to beat this game in about two days. (That is if you don't smash the two discs before you manage to complete the chore of beating it.)

Replay: Notta.

Forget playing this once, let alone twice.

Final score: 5
