Tekken 2
Review by Aganar
"Good, but not up there with Tekken 3"
This game was somewhat of a disappoinment to me. With all the hype and stuff it got, I was expecting a super-awesome fighter. That is not what I got. I got a decent fighter with pretty good graphics and surealistic characters. Tekken 3 was the one which blew me away and got me into the series. This game was just something I played when I was bored. Sorry Tekken 2, I liked Virtua Fighter 2 more.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics were pretty good, I'm not denying that, however, the characters were still a little lower polygon in comparison to Virtua Fighter 2's. They were still pretty good, though. And the FMVs were really amazing for the time, however Nameco was still trying to put in individual hair strands, characters in the opening like Nina looked somewhat strange. But, otherwise, I really liked the FMVs.
Gameplay: 9/10
Yes, the gameplay to this is pretty fun. The characters are well-balanced and unique. The battle system is quite fun, and combos are not ridiculously hard to perform. That is, until you look at the....
Control: 5/10
I know I'll get bashed for this, but I found the control in the game to be really awful. I mean, you have to push a button to get up? Yeesh! If the control was better, I would have liked this game alot more. Tekken 3's control was alot better, IMO.
Story: 7/10
Ok, let's see. Paul gets caught in a traffic jam so he can't meet Kazuya, Hehachi climbs back up the cliff, Yoshimitsu rescues Dr. B from a bunch of Mishima agents, Kazuya is now prezident of the Mishima corporation, and he secretly turns into devil. I won't give away all the endings, but if you're looking for a strong story don't look here. The characters are interesting, but the story is just basicly you're doing the same thing you did in the original Tekken, except now Hehachi is the hero and the big bad boss is Kazuya. Nothing special.....
Sound/Music: 8/10
It's pretty good. The sounds are accurate and well-done, and the music is ok. I wouldn't say they're great, but they're not bad either.
Extras: 10/10
Ok, this is one thing I must praise Nameco on. This game has alot of extras. I mean ALOT. Every character having their own secret character..Cool!Also, unlocking Devil and Angel is fun. This is probaly the best thing about the game besides the gameplay itself.
Overall: 8 out of 10
The game was certainly good for its time, but it didn't really attract me. I still prefered Virtua Fighter 2. It's ok for now, but there are better things to get with your money than this.
To Buy or Not to Buy:
If you are a hardcore Tekken or Fighter fan, than get this. I'm sure you will enjoy. As for anyone else, just get some of Namecos more recent better titles like Tekken 3 or Soul Calibur. Don't worry, the game will still be there when you're gone.
Pros:
Good graphics
Nice characters
Many extras
Cons:
Bad control
lacking story
