Diablo
Review by roadkill
"A fun hack and slash, for awhile anyway"
When first released, this game took the PC by storm. Then the PlayStation version came. Sadly, the PlayStation version did not meet with as much attention as it’s PC counterpart. I’d say the PC version is much better graphics and sound wise. Plus the PC has online capabilities, something you’ve only dreamt of for the PS.
Graphics – 8
Your usual hack and slash game. When you walk, it’s a little choppy but I guess that’s alright. Other then that, this game exactly resembles the PC. The towns are nicely drawn in a medieval style and your opponents look like they come straight out of hell. The dungeons are randomly generated (ohhh) and might remind you of something out of medieval times.
Sound – 8
There ain’t much of that going on inhere. Just the sound of you hacking and slashing your way through the opposition. On thing I really like is that this game has voice acting. So those of you that don’t like to read everything they say, just listen to em. I don’t know where EA got these people to do the voice acting, but they sound really convincing.
Characters – 8
You got your choice of three when you start up. You can be a warrior, archer or wizard. Each occupation has it’s own strengths and weaknesses. One thing I do like is that when you’re character levels up, it allows you to pick what aspect get effected. Say that you leveled up. You have 5 points to do with however you wish. You can allocate all five to life, magic, vitality, strength. Whatever you want. Diablo can also support two players so grab a bud and hack your way through it together.
Control – 8
Not to much to remember hear. Know your item buttons and of course your fire button. Like I said before, walking is a little choppy. But I think that was intentional don’t ask me why. This game is not analog stick compatible (something that would’ve really boosted gameplay) but I can forgive them.
Replay – 6
This game is very repetitive. Generated dungeons can get really sickening by the end of the game. And by the end of this game, you might develop corporal tunnel from all the repetitive button mashing. All-in-all, beat it once, after that, leave it on your shelf and take pride in knowing that you’ve beaten it.
Overall – 7
Well, if you have the PC version, I think that’s much better. If you don’t and you want to play this game. It will definitely be easier to find the PC version out there. Or you could just get Diablo 2. Either way, I’d stick with the PC versions.
