Apocalypse
Review by Eric M.
"Die Hard? No, but close."
I admit, when I picked this game up, I was skeptical. It looked like it was trying to be Die Hard TOO hard. But, I also noticed that the main character, Trey, was modeled by Bruce Willis, and I realized where I had gotten the analogy.
Apocalypse takes place in the mid 2000's. A maniacal scientist has resurrected the four horsemen of the apocalypse, death, war, plague, and beast. It is your job as this scientist's former partner and friend to destroy these horsemen, and(surprise) save the world.
If anyone played the game Smash TV for the Super NES, you'll recognize the control, to a point. The control was excellent. To fire ahead, you press triangle, to the left, square, down, x, and right circle. Simple. Or, if you have an analog controller, you can use the left to move Trey and the right to aim.
The graphics were great. Not spectacular like those in Metal Gear Solid, but great none the less. The motion capture done on Willis was excellent. The camera angles lacked in that they were free moving(like Alone in the Dark), making for some tough situations sometimes.
The sound was the best part of the game. Trey and his enemies will make you laugh while you destroy them. My favorite Trey quote was "oh, you want some- oh you want some too!" The music was excellent. An incredible score.
But... the replay value. If the replay value were better, I would have given this game a 9. After you beat it on hard, forget it, it's not much fun anymore. That's the cold hard truth.
But again I have to say, this game was well worth the 3 bucks it cost to rent. It'll give you a good 6+ hours worth of play, and weapons out the wazoo. My opinion? RENT OR BUY THIS GAME.
