T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger
Review by Nic_the_Man
"T'Ai Fu: The Game of Tigers and Tigeriffic Cheats."
T'Ai Fu - RPG/Platform - 1999
This Game (T'Ai Fu) is one of my favourites. This is especially because the range of cheats/codes. It isn't a BIG game like Pokemon or Final Fantasy, but it is still a good game to me. I suggest you try it before you buy it though, as it doesn't suit all tastes (one major downfall). Actually I suggest you either rent it out, or, You could try seeing if one of your mates has it and borrow it (That's what I did). The Official Australian Playstation Magazine (not sure what volume) it actually had a playable demo of T'ai Fu. Now, that's enough chit-chat, let's head to the Review:
Gameplay: With a choice between Normal or Easy Difficulty Modes, you can slightly change the difficulty. Sadly, No bonuses if you complete the game on a certain difficulty though. It is fun the first few times through, but you get real bored just repeating over and over again, especially on Easy Difficulty. It is simple to gain extra lives, for example, in 4 levels I ended up with 28 Lives.
OVERALL: 7/10
Story: Well you're a Tiger named T'Ai Fu, and you go on a big journey and learn Kung Fu Styles, while you find green Diamond-Shaped Things called ''Jade Pieces''. 100 Jade=A life or 25 Kills=A life. You start with 6 lives, but gain many as you go along. You have a magical force Called ''Chi''. You fight off HUNDREDS of beasts and PLANTS(?). You should find this Interesting except for the fact that there are no bonuses for completing the game a certain number of times or on a certain difficulty.
OVERALL: 5/10
Length of the game: It takes from 24 Hours to 75 Hours (depending on how skilled you are) to finish the game the first time round. Then once you know the way and have (almost) memorized it, it can take approximately only 4 hours!
OVERALL: 7/10
Audio: Well, I think that it has some cool sound effects in it but it could get a few different ones other than ''ow, ooh, ROAR, Bring It, Take It, ET cetera''.
OVERALL: 3/10
Video: Better than a few games like Simpson Wrestling but still lames a little bit. I think that the 3D View is really the only thing that brings this game a 4/10. NOTHING ELSE TO SAY.
OVERALL: 4/10
Replay ability: Well, You can't play this game very often, but I'd say 5 times for easy difficulty and 7-10 times normal difficulty, there isn't a storyline where you can choose different routes, like those choose your own adventure books. That made it lose some valuable points.
OVERALL: 1/10
Recommended Sales: You would probably get over this game very quickly, so I suggest you rent it. I'd you rent it for about $10 AUS or Buy it for $25 AUS (Platinum) and $55 AUS New Release. So pretty Expensive for a game of this rate, but who cares, the cheat codes give T'Ai Fu A HUMONGOUS Boost, and I really suggest you rent it, then if you like it, go one step further and buy it!
OVERALL: 9/10
PROS:
+ Average Number of FMV Sequences and that is really good
+ 8 Different Fighting Styles, from Mantis to Monkey to Tiger
+ Nice Smooth 3D Movement
+ Plenty of attacks.
CONS:
- Too Many Cliffs, Bad for the first-timer.
- Replay Ability Factor VVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYY Low.
- How many Times do I have to repeat this, BUT NO WINNING BONUSES!
- Doesn't cover many likes of games and too many dislikes.
TOTAL SCORE 6/10
