SaGa Frontier 2
Review by Mitora
"*sniff sniff* What a sad dissapointment *sobs*"
INTRO: I loved the first ''SaGa Frontier'' so very much, and I am such a big fan of the ''Romancing SaGa'' trillogy on the Super Famicom and found ''Makia Toushi SaGa'' on the Gameboy to be decent and amusing. But what went wrong on ''SaGa Frontier II'', may you ask?
STORYLINE: What is this? There are only two plots to it! TWO PLOTS! What happened to choosing who you want to? But wait, this does not happen until later in the game. Both stories of the two medevial heroes seemed rather derivative (in a bad way) and felt like I watching ''Braveheart'' with monsters thrown in there.
Hmmph!
CHARACTERS: Another messup here! I thought both William Knights and ''Prince'' Gustave XIII were both as likeable as the gunk inside my kitchen sink.Very drab and boring character development for both of the heroes and guess what folks, the other ''playable'' folks that join your party aren't that interesting either!
And another thing I liked about SaGa Frontier (and all the other SaGa games) is that you can choose to have nifty non-human characters in your party as well. Everyone is basically a bunch of down-to-earth human knights.
GRAPHICS: Wow, this is the only reason why I gave this game a 2, because of the hand-drawn graphics (no, I'm NOT being sarcastic). They are nicely drawn and the backgrounds are very detailed at it's best, kind of like reading a storybook. Nice indeed!
GAMEPLAY: Eh, mixed bag. You can choose more weaopns in this game, but the thing I hate about this game is, it's too linear indeed. You harly get to battle any enemies at all! You have to have to follow the scenario one-by-one, and no turning back!
FUN: Ugh, sorry, but after the corny ''Giant Egg'' bit, I had to stop! So therefore, I almost got though the game, but it just got too dull.
CHALLENGE: HARD. Hard to be paying attention to this game after a while! It's a cure for imsomnia, only without the addiction to it!
OVERALL: ''SaGa Frontier II'' was a grand dissapointment in the SaGa series. But, if you want a game that is like the first ''SaGa Frontier'', play ''Seiken Densetsu: Lengend of Mana''. If you want a (boring) interactive novel with boring characters, corny plot and humdrum music, play this game now! But I do admit, the graphics were great, but too bad not even the beautiful artistry of Kobayashi Tomomie could save this misfortunate entry in the SaGa games.
WOULD MITORA PURCHASE THIS GAME: I wish I haven't! *sighs and whimpers in disgust*
