Colony Wars: Vengeance

"Best 3D shooter on the PSX ?"

Colony Wars: Vengeance is by far the best 3D shooter the PlayStation has to offer. I havent played the first Colony Wars, so basicly im new to this game and its way of playing. Remarkable graphics, great explosions, and the ability to go anywhere is just great. So far I have yet to see any other game on the PSX system that can deliver such detail, for the exception of Metal Gear Solid.

Gameplay: 9/10

The gameplay is , I guess, the same as the first one. Flying in totally 3D enviorments is what really got me hooked. The weapons are great, from the Ion Cannon to the Alien Missiles, they are really great. It does have some down points though, like the difficulty. This game is extremely hard, and I mean hard. Possibly the only way to win is with a cheat or you have to be really good. Also with over 19 acts featuring over 40 or so missions and 6 endings, this game has a pretty good replay value.Other than this, the gameplay is great.

Graphics: 10/10

The graphics are a step up from other games on the PSX. Details of ships are great, and are HUGE. The ships are really huge compared to the little ship you fly in, especially the ones near the end. The laser blasts are great and the weapon effects are extrodinary. This is the best feature of the game.

Sound: 10/10

The sound is great, just great. The music is pretty good, but can get distorted when you fire a weapon or when you blow a ship up. The realistic sound of flying next to one of those huge ships is great to. If you have a real good TV, crank up that bass and the smartsound and you get a real treat. Also the game features a Dolby Sound mode, which I cant point out the differences from the already great Stereo mode.

Control: 9/10

The control is great too. Great response to every movements, every push of the button is excellent. I havent played the game with the Dual Shock controller so I dont know the effects of that.

Overall: 9/10

This game is a great 3D shooter on any system, especially the PSX. The game is very original, the ability to go anywhere. The graphics are great, the sound is great, almost everything is great except the difficulty. So far the only other game that gives almost the same gameplay is Forsaken for the N64. Another good game for another day. Today is the day for this game to shine, the best 3D fighter of the PSX game system.
