Torneko: The Last Hope
Review by Red Kirby
"It beats Chocobo's Doungeon 2 by a mile!"
Torneko: The last hope, is a combination of Dungeon and RPG genres. Don't under-estimate it for a Chocobo's Doungeon 2 rip-off, because it simply isn't.
Story- 8/10
The story is deep and complex, and really gets you motivated. I won't tell you the story, but i'll tell you this, it's AWESOME! I can't say much more, though
Ups
-Complex
-Easy to Follow
Downs
-kinda cheesy here and there
Graphics- 10/10
Who said everything has to be 3-D? Not me, that's for sure! The sprites in this game are bright, colorful, 2-D, and best of all, they walk in place! Background and foregrounds are quite realistic. The screen text is clear and easy to read, so stop squinting! When you equip an item, you can actually see it. when you throw an item, it spins! ooh-aah!
Ups
-Traditional 2-D characters
-Bright, easy-to-read text
-People walk in place
Downs
-None!
Sound- 9/10
The sound is probably the best aspect of the game. the music is made by real instruments. You'll hear a full orchesta of instuments in each song, each song lasting over 3 minutes. doungeon songs change throughout the level, varying slightly, greatly, or even a whole different tune. It's done by enix, after all, so you should expect a lot. The sound effects, however, are kinda creaky. they feature some bloops and bleeps, and a little bit of detail
Ups
-Music is made from real instruments
-Detailed and lots of effort
Downs
-Crappy Sound Effects
Gameplay- 9/10
The gameplay is very well planned. You move around, space by space, beating up monsters and getting treasure. The style of play is turn-based. a turn can feature the following... Equipping Items, taking a step, Attacking, using an item. Nothing will happen if you do nothing. The monsters will stay still until you move. as in any RPG, losing all your HP means you're dead. there's also other ways of dying. being poisoned a certain number of times is one. there are over 100 different enemies in the game. there's also around 15 doungeons, so it's worth buying. Lastly, there's the level system. when you gain enough exp, you gain a level (duh...). once you complete/escape/ die in the doungeon, you return to level 1. so you get an infinite challenge
Ups
-Steady-paced controlling
-Unique battle system
-You can kill priests!
Downs
-too much like Chocobo's Dungeon 2
Overall- 9/10
Torneko: The last hope, will surely satisfy you in every way possible. You should get a good 35 hours of gameplay here, and that's not bad at all! Just beating the game isn't enough. There's a mystery list of things you DON'T have to do, such as bringing a monster home for a pet (don't ask me, i'm still trying to figure it out). You must also Return to doungeons and get killed in as many ways as possible. That adds more gamplay, adding up to a total of 50 hours, at least. have fun with your tubby hero, folks!
