Medal of Honor
Review by BigRedMachineGAMMA
"PS-X Finally Has An FPS Good Enough To Compete With Goldeneye."
Playstation has often been criticized for it's lack of good FPSs. The P-SX simply can't handle the graphics that N-64 can. But now it finally has a great FPS to compete with N-64's best, and that game is Medal of Honor. Based on WW2, you take control of Jimmy Patterson, a young soldier commended for his brave acts and invited to join the OSS. Many diverse and challenging levels await you, ranging from undercover missions to search-and-destroy. Read on to find out how this game scores in each category.
Graphics(8/10)
Enemy movements look very realistic, whether they are crouching from lower gun wounds to hopping on one foot after the other was shot. When using larger weapons, the soldiers will fly farther backwards when shot than when using a smaller weapon. Even though pixelation is a problem, and slowdown occurs with many characters on the screen at once, along with the occasional pop-up, the graphics are quite clean and impressive for P-SX, with so many varied environments to display.
Audio(9/10)
All the voices done in MoH are very well distinguished, ranging from a Nazi swearing in German after getting shot to the yells of soldiers as they are running in terror from a bazooka. The gun shots are clear and crisp, and each weapon has it's own individual trademark gun-shots. Enemies can be heard talking amongst themselves, and footsteps are easily audible, and change depending on the surface they are walked on. The music is excellent as well, ranging from the slower tunes in some areas, to the excellent symphonies in others. The sound is definitely one of this game's strongest suites.
Playcontrol(10/10)
There is absolutely no flaws in this excellent, completely reconfigurable playcontrol. If you're shot to pieces you can never blame the control, and after a while you'll be praising it for it's simple, yet deep structure. The Dual Shock controller is best for use in MoH, yet the original works great as well. Absolutely brilliant, period.
Entertainment value(10/10)
MoH has an excellent WW2 storyline, which is truly the shining part of the entire game. Whether it's destroying chemical plants or raiding fortresses, this game is pure fun, and pure genius from the masterminds at Dreamworks. If you own a PS-X you have no choice but to get this game. It may not be completely perfect, but it's close. How Dreamworks did it I'll never know, but one thing is for sure and that's that few FPSs will ever top this masterpiece
