Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Review by Gizmo
"A Ok game with good graphics + interesting story. Could be better."
Oddworld. What a place. The first in a series of 5 games that will span Oddworld, Abe's Oddysee is hopefully not a vision of things to come from Rupture Farms.
First of all, I'm not really sure how you are supposed to fall in love with Abe, a bad looking, well ugly Mudokon with a cold. Abe has to save his race from being eaten up by the Glukkons who smoke cigars and are greedy! My kind of guys!! The game Does have some very interesting creatures, from the no armed Glukkons to the hand-for-a-mouth sligs to a Elum who looks like he's from Episode 1.
Abe isn't hard to control, but could use better handling. The graphics are 10/10 for a platform game, but I would substitute the graphics for some scrolling or a occasional birds eye view. The 2 1/2 D if you want to call it, does get a wee bit boring after a few levels.
The cinematic scenes are superb, but short and not interesting. Being able to tiptoe around sleeping Sligs is about the only real enjoyment. That and looking at the Glukkons.
Renting the game is worth is just to see all the characters, but buying it . .? You decide. Not my cup of tea, but i'm sure I will be impressed more with future Oddworld games.
