Crash Team Racing
Review by Harvman 85
"Want a fun game, here is"
So, what do you think? Just another Kart Racing game designed to help you part with your hard earned cash by doing the same old thing but with new characters. Well, this game sort of is, but it is still a great game worthy of spending your cash on.
I get asked a lot by my friends, do you really like this game, do you think it is worth spending your money on, and have you finished the game yet. My answer for all 3 is yes, after 2 months of late nights, days off school and eating nothing but lollipops paid off, because I got the game finished 100% on Adventure mode and unlocked all the arenas for battle mode. Well, enough of my rambling, I suppose you would like to know about the game.
Crash team racing, like every other Crash Bandicoot game, has a storyline revolving around one major boss, and in CTR, there is one nasty boss, Nitrous Oxide. The games introduction movie starts with Crash and friends zooming around the place, with a sign up ''Race Today, winner receives a trophy'' and then the focus shifts to outer space, where the villainous Nitrous oxide is talking into an holocam (It looks sort of like the one in crash 2) and he challenges the earth to a race. He will race the earth’s best racer, and if you win he will leave the earth alone, but if he wins, he will turn your planet into a concrete parking lot, and make the citizens of earth his slaves.
Gameplay: Is crash team racing fun to play? Well, in one simple answer, yes. The single player Adventure mode is the only really good way to play by yourself. The Adventure mode in CTR is like the story mode in fighting games, you race around the map entering races, eventually taking on a level boss, and then going on to the next area (ala Crash 3)
But the multiplayer is where the game really shines. There is Arcade mode, where you and a friend can play a cup, or the battle arena where you can duke it out with a mate.
Audio/Video: The graphics of the characters and their karts are very smooth and detailed, while the circuits are detailed but the circuits have a problem of garbage graphics, where graphics become a pixellated and are no longer smooth and good.
As you can expect, the sound is upbeat music, the same as in the other three games, and the voices are appropriate for the game. The weapons have good weapon noises and the characters have their own special taunts. The sound is very high quality.
Replayability: After finishing Adventure mode 100%, you will probably not want to play it again, but the Multiplayer options will have you playing it with your friends for years.
Buy or rent: Buy. You would never be able to finish it properly in one or two nights.
My score 9/10
The game’s not perfect, but well deserving of my appraisal.
