Review: Threads of Fate
Intro:
One of squaresofts great non-final fantasy games. Its terribly underrated and too unknown. Should have stuck with the name dewprism, but oh well, it was great in so many ways.
Graphics:
polygonal. One word that is looked down upon by many. I think the graphics were great and good looking. They stood out amongst other games that were out at the time. They were vivid, and good-quality. Squaresoft put them together with there wonderful talent. The graphics sucked you in with all the monsters and the fighting. They were creative in many ways, and one of my favorite games at the time with graphics.
Graphics: 9/10
Music:
The music wasnt all great, probally the worst part of this game, and the only thing i have sumthing bad to say about. It was well composed, and it went well at parts in mazes(dungoeons) and the forest/swamp, but there wasnt anything spectacular about it. The theme music at the beginning is a nice tune, and the main theme is nice. If the music were better, i think this would be one of my favorite all-time games.
Music: 6/10
Replay Factor:
Being able to go through the game with two wondeful main characters is a great feature. The gaame with its many great points, is well-worth playing over again many times. The fighting keeps you into it, and you ont get bored like many RPG's that get too repetive with music/battles/storyline. The battles were great in the fact, you didnt really have to wait and there was no real loading.
Replay Factor: 7/10
Storyline:
The storyline which sounded intriguing in previews, shocked me with its surperbness all the way til the end. It unravled with little change or mystery, but was great and even though it was too happy, and not enough sadness, it was great and i loved every aspect of it. Squaresoft are some of the best writers, and this game is one of there better storys. Its right up there with FFIV and xenogears. Not close up there..but still up there. The characters were used well in the story, and i learned about them enough to actually care.
Storyline: 10/10
Gameplay:
This is the best part of all RPGs, and in this it is merely the greatest attribute and the greatest feature about it. The fighting which is not turn-based, but more real-time is great, and the battles throughout the storyline were challenging and you really had to learn new things to master fighting. One of the shortest games that i actually loved. even though it was short, it was challenging and worth while all the way through. Being used to ATB and such fighting, this was a great change for me. Having to pay attention at all times is great, you dont get bored or tired of it ever, you only realyl wanna turn it off when you need sleep, never will you come across a time where you are bored and tired of the game. The gameplay keeps you interseted in the story, and it wont be a game you quit playing for awhile, and if you did, you'd prolly wanna start over jsut to see it all again.
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall:
Even though i say it is under rated, i think a 7 is what it deserves, it is an amazing game, and i think its great. But it is too short, and even if you play both ways, wit hboth people, there isnt enough challeng involved with either people. The game is well put together, the characters are great. and the story goes well with the gameplay. The fighting is great, and a nice change from squares MAIN style.
Overall: 7/10
