Legend of Legaia
Review by Gameboy
"One of the crappiest RPGs ever made."
If you're waiting for FF8 to come out and you've wasted every other RPG, then I highly reccomend that you don't buy this one. Everything about it sucks. Every time you get a new character on your team, they start at Level 1, so that you have to spend another 6 hours leveling up right after you just spent 6 hours leveling up. 90% of your spells are useless, using Spirit and two Hyper Arts does at least 2x as much damage. The last character to join your team gets far less attacks than the other two, even if you level him up a lot, thus making him nearly useless without Spirit. There's no point in buying weapons, either. A Ra-Seru attack does more damage than a weapon attack. The way you learn moves is also crappily done, you just punch in some buttons and eventually you'll find one. Worst of all is the way you gain the (mostly useless) spells. You just pummel on a Seru enemy and about 1 in every 10,000 times you'll gain a spell.
Graphics 9/10
This is the only reason I gave it a two and not a one. The graphics are very nicely done. Slightly pixelated, but still good.
Sound 4/10
This is the worst part. The music is just boring and repetitive crap. You'll listen to the same old crappy music over and over, and the sound effects are nothing more than mediocre.
Control 8/10
It's pretty good control. The only catch is that you have to stop running to talk to people, because the same button runs and talks.
Challenge 1/10 What challenge? If you just level up and Spirit and Hyper or Miracle Art every turn, you can defeat any boss. Then you just have Gala heal and go on to the next round. Poorly designed. The mini-games don't save it, either. You can play some rip-off of Bust-a-Groove, a crappily designed fighting game, or even a fishing game, where you throw in your line and get something worth like 10 points, when you need about 1,000,000 points to get something.
Fun Factor 2/10 Well, I'll just say this. The repetition and endless dialogue brings it down. You just talk, fight, talk, revive tree, talk, fight, talk, fight, talk, revive tree, etc. The bosses provide no real challenge.
Replay 0/10 Don't play this. Don't even rent it. Just let it collect dust in that video store.
