Ehrgeiz
Review by SJplusAH
"A fighting game that has a little more punch."
Ehrgeiz is the new fighter from the Dreamfactory/Square team. The game is a blast to play and all the minigames are worth messing with.
Gameplay-9
The controls could have been worked on a little. But combos and other special moves are very easy to pull off making this a great game for begginers. But the real downside is the fact that you can get the hidden characters basicly by beating the game on very easy. Other wise the controls are very responsive and seem to work well with the games 3-D interface. And so many characters! Geez. Not only do you get your FF7 cast, but you get such a variety of characters that you won'y be able to remember who they are. Of course most people would play the game for maybe an hour and say it's pretty f**ked up. But after you geet the controls down and all that other stuff you have a pretty good game made. And the additions of the Quest mode and the four mini-games are a great alternative to the arcade mode. Quest mode plays great. Enev though it only offers two diffrent characters for that mode it's a very creative mode.
Graphics-8
The graphics are a fighting game masterpiece. You can't actually see individuale polygons in the characters like in the Tekken series. (Which I greatly enjoy) but you see 60 fps silky smooth movement. Pretty good. In my opinion. The backgrounds basicly suck though. You get big boring 2-d backgrounds that look like your fighting in a big box.
Sound-10
Enev the sound gets repetive over and over again and the fact that their is NO sound is practice mode would put this rating down. But the quest mode music just kicks with this nice little tune that doesn't seem to get boring much. The sounds of hits are really realistic. And the addition of the dual shock make it a better expierence.
Ehrgeiz is a great game to buy if you really want a new kind of fighting game. But if your waiting for some big party game to come out save your money for Shao-Lin. This has to be one of the best fighters of all time.
