"Final Fantasy Kart?"

Personally, I like the game. It's similar to MarioKart, so the younger audience will enjoy it, and it also has characters and music from classic Final Fantasy games (and some from FF8, too), so that older audiences can appreciate it.

The first thing that hits most people is the whole idea of Square making a racing game. We really should be used to it. They did make Rad Racer on the NES, one of the first console racing games. Besides, I don't think it takes too much skill to make a MarioKart clone... :D

If you unlock every hidden option and every hidden character, you'll actually find a little bit of challenge. Customizing your own characters is always fun, too. The best possible use of the game, like MarioKart, is probably Multi-Player. Though Chocobo Racing is only two player, you can play a Grand Prix mode against 4 computer opponents (and after you unlock them, Bahamut or Squall might play against you in the GP mode). The game takes very little time to master, and anyone who has played both MarioKart and Final Fantasy will recognize everything (if you haven't played FFIII(j) or FFV, you might not recognize all of the music).

I think the game is well worth the time, if you have extra money, or just need something to hold you over after FFVIII and FF Anthology.
