Omega Boost
Review by DJellybean
"Wow! A shooter that is this good!"
This game does what no other Sony published shooter does performing well in game play, graphics, and sheer entertaining fun. There are tons of enemies in this game and an even larger amount of artillery at your disposal. You can have a lot of fluid control for this game and the designs are outstanding as well as amazing. There are tons of amazing features in this game that make it look spectacular and came out as a sure fire hit.
Graphics: 9/10
This game has some of the best graphics I have ever seen for the PSX. There are tons of
different designs for the mech suits and all of them look marvelously done. There was a
large amount of sprites blazing across the screen which didn't even slow the game down
a notch. There was a lot of amazing effects such as explosions and light streaks which
looked amazingly done. The main character sprite looked pretty well detailed for the
most and was well designed. There was several types of weapons that you commanded
such as missiles, lasers, and other various varieties of missiles. There was several angles
that you can fight in from the first person view, to trailing camera view and even third
person views. After the battle was over you can replay the scenes that you just did and
watch the action. There was also a stationary camera that you could move in any
direction to see the view. There was a lot of amazing graphics for the enemies weapons
as well. There a whole bunch of enemy ships on each zone of the game and for the most
part were designed really well. There was a lot of different types of opponent mechs like
war ships, targeting satellites, space cruisers and other types of enemies. You even had to
face off against a gigantic spider which was almost four times the height that you were.
The arsenal that the bosses packed were huge with a lot of designs to them that didn't
even effect the game much. The backgrounds for this game look pretty well done for the
most part. There was a lot of light patterns when you were not in orbit or in space which
looked amazingly well and seem to fit the situation from enemies blowing up or you
bumping into meteors. This game has some extremely well made levels including
deserted planets, space stations, and even an asteroid belt. Overall the graphics for his
game were fantastically done with a lot of amazing depictions and clarity much like the
Gundam TV shows.
Music/Sound: 8/10
There was a lot tunes in this game for a shooter. The music set the tone up for battles
nicely and sounded really clear and sharp. There was several types of different themes in
this game. The themes set the battle atmosphere really well but none that was really
catchy. There isn't really much to say about the music but that didn't keep it from falling
behind. The sound effects area was were this game shined the most. This game had some
of the most wonderfully done sound effects that has ever appeared for the PSX. You
could here every hit from the enemies or every explosion that erupted from the bosses.
There was a lot of different sound effects for the weapons too and also for you mech
flying. The missiles had a loud boom sound to it which made it seem realistic. The sound
in this game even had perspectives of the enemies for example if you blew up an enemy
right in front of you the sound would be ear deafening as opposed to if you blew up a
mech robot from far away the sound would be softer to hear. There are a lot of amazing
features in this game that sound really good and there was a lot of clear sounds that make
this area on of the best for yet. The music overall was pretty good but not nearly as good
as the other shoot em ups like Einhander or R-Type.
Replay Value: 8/10
This game is one of the funnest shooters to play and done even wear out that easily. You
can play as only one type of mech from the beginning and you have to blast your way
through enemies. Even if you beat the game already this game is still fun to play. Also if
you didn't get it the first time you can go through the game again and do your best and if
you do well enough you can get bonus levels that compare to that of Resident Evil's
Extreme Battle mode which pits you and only you against a barrage of enemies in an
attempt to rid you of your mech suits. This area of the game was done extremely well.
Gameplay: 10/10
This game plays like you average shooter but that not just all it does. You have a better
persective to choose from a which assault of weapons as you command, and relentess
enemies that don't stop until they get you. The artifical intellgience in this game for the
mech does seem really though for most of the enemies but even with that in mind it
doesn't take much smarts to know that you are out number and stand little chace without
experience. The computer plays pretty well though and as you play through the game you
won't see many attack patterns repeated. There was a ton of enemies that came from all
directions and jsut when you think you have evaded them all the last one comes back and
gets you. This game maybe hard but unlike most hard game this one isn't fustrating. The
controls for this game are very fluid and the character responds with a moments notice.
You can speed up, slow down and shift right to left with the press of a button. You can
even attack more than one person at a time which was really amazing. There was a lot of
different types of weapons that you can use but the enemies still could match you. This
game does extremely well here and is one of the best yet.
Overall: 9/10
This game is absolutely fantastic. The graphics are well made and look really amazing
from the character sprites to the enemies ships this game looks really amazing. The
music was you done pretty well and fit the game nicely. The effects were phenomenal
with thunderous explosions and numerous effects. The game play was done excellently
with a lot of amazing sounds and some of the funnest features for a shooter. This game is
great for anyone and on to keep for a long time.
