Review by Captain Doormat

"Build your own car, then drive it along boring tracks and get uninspired power ups, and win worthless prizes."

The instruction booklet claims that Lego Racers is a fast action packed game. Do Lego even know what a game is?

Graphics:5/10
The average Playstation affair. Flat textures, glitchy scenery, slow, dull courses. But then again, the Playstation isn't capable of much more.
The menus are dark to say the least. The text is small, and the graphics are blocky.
The graphics certainly detract from the game. Would you eat a black apple?

Sound:5/10
The ambient tracks aren't really that bad, put the poor sound effects are worse. This game is aimed at younger children, so it doesn't need classy sounds... right? Well it does. Get your act together, kids don't need the torment of these terrible sounds.
The sounds are used to a repetitive extent and they get quite annoying, they actually make you reach for the power switch.

Gameplay:5/10
The gameplay is this; you build a racer from an array of different themed Lego bricks. Different vehicles can have different properties, such as a small vehicle may have better handling, while a streamlined one will be faster.
Once you have done this, you can build a driver, again out of special Lego parts.
Then it's down to the racing. You race someone called 'Rocket Racer', or the likes. He is apparently so good, he has gotten bored. So him, along with a scientist friend, made a Lego warp- so he can search for racers to challenge. Yawn.
The actual racing is uninspired and boring. There is no fun to be had with sloppy controls and no analog support. The power ups are of the basic kind. A boost, a speed up, etc. You can power these up by collecting two in a row. They do piss all, and do not enhance the already bad racing experience.

Multi player:2/10
Why anyone would want to try their hand at the multi player still remains a mystery to me. There is no competition or fury. Pah, why did they bother?

Challenge and Re playability:0/10
The game is easy, possibly because it is aimed at younger children, and as for re playability-all I can say is, 'You wish!', although if you are desperate enough, you may come back for the awful multi player.

Sprite likes: (Pros)
It's Lego!
You can make your own cars
The disc serves as a cool coaster

Sprite doesn't like: (Cons)
The actual game is poor, very poor
The levels are boring
The game package, takes ages to get off

Overall:4/10
Provides a limited amount of fun. Designing a car reminds you of your yesteryears, when you sat on the floor building houses out of Lego.. well, the game is crap. End of story.
