Street Fighter Collection 2
Review by Ggultra2764
"Good collection game, but not as good as the first."
Street Fighter Collection 2 is the second installment of classic games put into a collection. This time, the games consist of the first three games of the Street Fighter II series: World Warrior, Champion Edition, and Turbo Hyper Fighting. For those who haven't played these games at all, I'll give a quick rundown of each game in the collection:
-World Warrior- The first game features 8 playable fighters who each have 2 to 4 special attacks. You can't play as the same fighter and after disposing of your 7 opponents, you'll engage battle with Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison. Fighters appearing to be a swap of one another are Ryu and Ken.
-Champion Edition- This second game makes the boss fighters available and you can now battle the same fighter. The bosses do have endings amazingly each having the same bad background of world domination. Ryu and Ken don't appear to be swaps anymore.
-Turbo Hyper Fighting- The game speed has been booted up a bit, there are new color palettes and some of the fighters have been given new attacks. Otherwise, this game is similar to Champion Edition.
Other features in this collection besides the games are being able to view character info, artwork, and tips for each Street Fighter II game in a gallery. The work was done quite well and will amaze nostalgic Street Fighter fans.As you beat each Street Fighter game, you'll be able to unlock new features in the gallery.
Now onto the games!! Each of the Street Fighter games are similar to their arcade counterpart. The graphics are 16-bit but they still look good when the collection was made in 1998. However, the slowdown which plagued these games in the arcades still exists here. Also, some of the music and sounds on this game seem to have lost their touch over the past 5-6 years as they aren't exactly tuned to their original 1991 or 1992 sound. The Sound Remix option for Street Fighter Collection 2 does save the sound score as the music, sounds, and voice effects are given a modern makeover done very well. Plus, all 3 bonus games from the Street Fighter II games like wrecking barrels, cars, and flaming barrels remains intact on the collection.
As for the controls, the Playstation controller which is very good at handling fighting games is very responsive on any of the Street Fighter 2 games for the collection allowing you to pull off any move no problem. Also, in this collection is a Practice mode where you can thrash your opponent by practicing your special attacks then you can replay your thrashing with a recording option.
Overall: While it lacks the style Street Fighter Collection did, Street Fighter Collection 2 is still a good game to check out. The nostalgic Street Fighter fan can take a look back at the past and show friends use to today's 3-D fighting games today how it's still good to look back on the past. Other than this, the artwork and features shown in the game are what makes half of the highs in getting Street Fighter Collection 2, a look back on the three classic Street Fighter II games.
