Saiyuki: Journey West
Review by jinuan
"It may not be Final Fantasy Tactics but..."
Very Brief Story
This game is about a monk, Sanzo who recieve a staff from Lady Kannon, a guardian of heaven. She been ordered to travel to India to meet up with Kannon. Along the way Sanzo meet friends who have supernatural powers, called Were. Where they transform into powerful beings and rip hell upon their enemies. A man name Ashura who was seal away from heaven goes all out to try to retrieve the staff, sending his minions to do his dirty work. The story is good with a lot of comedy.
Graphics - 7
The graphics are simple, like most games of this genre although the chicks are pretty cute, even though they are stills. This game doesn't look as good as FF Tactics lacking the use of colors. The game could look better, but it's nothing to complain about.
Sound - 7
The sound is good. It has a variety of traditional chinese music with some soft rock n roll music especially when the boss sequence comes on. The music during the battle scenes are done quite well, illustrating the battle mood. HOOAH!!!
Gameplay -6
The gameplay is turn based, where every character has to wait for you to do a command. There is an auto feature if you don't feel like having total control of your characters. Too bad you can't turn off the animation when the characters or enemies cast spells. Making battle a drag and unnecessary boring. Battles in this game usually take ten minutes or more, depending on how you play it. The story is too light for my taste compared to FF Tactics where theirs twist and turns with every scenerio.
Controls - 7
Controls are good for this type of game, just one push of a button and you do whatever you want. Dang, four hundred words is too much for a lament soul such as myself. Anyways, controls are standard as for any other game of this type, take it or leave it, I guess.
Fun Factor - 7
It's a fun game that will kill time, if you don't have a life or just unemployed this game might do the trick. Don't expect anything exciting. Sometimes, for instance when your busy building levels for your characters, the games becomes a drag.
+ Time Waster
+ Descent Chinese music
+ Cheap enough to own
- Too much wasting time
- Story is too light and innocent
REPRESENTING - AAAIIIIGHT
