Cool Boarders 2
Review by elgen / Shoo
"Definitely the BEST Cool Boarders choice for PSX!"
Info:
UEP Systems 2nd snowboard(ing) game, Cool Boarders 2 is what your PSX need if your a (extreme) snowboard fanatic.
You can't experience more extreme snowboarding for PSX than you can do in Cool Boarders 2, extreme is its first name and you will note that when you try it..
Now, let's look at the game content then:
Story:
The story in CB2 is a standard one.. most of snowboard games don't have a good story, so its hard to find a snowboard game with a good story. Basically every character's goal in the game's are to be the first down the hill's/mountain's and be number 1, so it really don't have that much story in it.. not even a character bio.
But after all, its a snowboard game and what other story can you expect from a snowboard game for PSX ?
Story Score: 4/10
Gameplay:
Want to have some extreme snowboarding ? You won't be disappointed when you try out CB2..
You have different race choices, 4-5 new characters to explore and race/ride with, more outfits to try out, you get more beats when you play and you get a true kick when you jump to the high air & trick like a crazy one.
Another thing, if you're getting bored to race with the same boards over and over again, you can simply create your own snowboard!!! It sure is fun to ride down the hill with your OWN designed board and all.
You got a lot of level's to rush trough and when you first start, you won't give up until you're done and then you will just do it again or try something else, so you won't be bored, that's for sure.
UEP have also added a cool half-pipe, big jumps, a free ride board park and they also have added a practice mode that let's you get known to all the moves & combo's in the game. So groove it on!
Gameplay Score: 10/10
Graphics:
The graphical system in CB2 is not that much to say ''WOW!'' for.. yet the game graphic is better than in the first game, but it could be drawn better and more detailed/smoothly. You can see houses and the crowd in the background, but they're not too much to say ''Weee!'' on.
So UEP haven't thought that much about the smoothness & graphic for this game, but still, stages are huge, there are tree's, rock's, ice roads and other things on your way that you have to get trough that's well built and designed and the game/competition intro's are well designed and made too, that's a good add in CB2.
Graphics Score: 8/10
Sound:
With all those beat's and jam's, it sure will give you a good kick and feeling when you're sliding down the hills.
The speaker could be more understanding and clear and the character's vocabulary could be more than ''Ouch!'' , ''All right!'' etc. You don't hear them say that much, all you hear when you ride down is the snow that you're on riding on and the sound when you crash and jump + the music ofcourse.. that get's a bit boring after a while.. but CB2 have a lot more music choice's than the 1st one and you can also choose what music you want to hear when you're riding trough the stages, not just the same music all the way long, another good add from UEP.
Sound Score: 8/10
Re-playability / Game Controls:
You have a lot of stages to clear, different boards to try out, different challenge's to clear and basically you have enough to do when you first start to play.
The game difficulty will be a challenge as soon as you enter the ''Competition'' mode. Another thing that will hold you're hands on this game is that you can race and compete against a friend in the 2-Player mode!!
It's always fun to beat your friends and see who's the coolest one down the hills.
Game control is good, some practice and you will handle it very well. Perhaps to much combo's to remember, but that belong's to the challenge of CB2 and that's why you have a practice mode where you can learn all the trick's & combo's that will be useful when you're beating record's and you're opponents.
Re-playability / Game Controls Score: 10/10
Overall:
CB2 is definitely a supreme & extreme game from UEP Systems who didn't do that well with CB1, but they sure gave some revenge. As told you earlier, CB2 gives you extreme snowboarding, you can ride in a high speed trough the stages, jump and spin like a crazy one, it gives you all you need in an extreme snowboard game for PSX! UEP Systems sure knows what they're doing and they are not going to disappoint you, they sure didn't disappoint me though.
Want to rent the game first ? Feel free to do so, but i doubt that you will find any better snowboard games for PSX than CB2, so it's not a waste of money if you buy this game, especially if you're a Cool Boarders-collector (like i am) and a true (extreme) snowboarder on your own.. you're going to LOVE this game, that's for sure..
It's truly a must-have-game for your PSX, so don't miss it!
