"Nothing less than a good game...nothing more either"
This was my first ever game I had on my playstation, and it was really great. Oh, by the way this is from a 14 year old gamer, and this is my first review, so bare with me. I just decided to write it after I saw that piss-ant givethis game a three.
Graphics: 9/10
It's unfair to judge graphics by todays age if they were made 5 years ago. Which is what that guy in the other review did. Great graphics, I can tell who and what everything is. They are blocky, and are done in kinda EARLY 3D, but it's greater graphics than many other games on PS1, even if that stupid dude that wrote the first dude won't admit it. Obviously he hasn't played a whole lot of early ps1 games, and judges graphics from five years ago by todays graphics. Graphics drastically improve in five years time (I have Daggerfall, from 1996, and Morrowind from 2002....Drastically improved).
Music and sound: 6/10
After a while, the music does get annoying...but nothing your can't fix! Just mute it if you don't like it. For the first few minutes I thought the music was fun. It was damn fun. And the bashing sounds from when you hit somebody are nice too. The characters say their little sayings (The Thing has his 'It's clobberin' time', and the Human Torch has his 'Flame on'). nice little touches that you'll enjoy for a lil bit. Then you get tired and bored of it, and then you get annoyed.
Story: 7/10
An average beat-em-up. What da hell do you expect? It is a beat-em-up! Beat-em-ups are usually composed of lots of action. That other dude must've been an RPG buff. It's hard to mix RPG buffs who expect stories and reasoning in a straight out beat-em-up actioner. Anyways, the story goes as the usual for a beat-em-up. A guy (in this case Dr. Doom) is going for world domination. You, the fantastic four, are transported to the first place and must go on through missions killing mole men, and people from the comics. See, toldcha it was your average beat-em-up. You can't have too many stories with a game like this.
Controls: 8/10
The only really difficulty I had with the controls was picking things up and throwing things. The combos were easy enough. Block for O, triangle and square are triangle and square and I believe X. To do a combo you press R2 then the combination of buttons. I also had a little problem with you not being able to move while attacking, but I gave this game an 70% instead of a 100%
Gameplay: 7/10
Pick a character and kick enemy ass. Reminds me of too many games to count. The bad part about this game and any other games is that, it gets really old after a while. 1 good thing; It's 1-4 players. It depends on how you play it. If you play it 1 player it gets boring really fast. If you play it with multiple players, you will want to beat it. This game gets really fun with multiple players, but not really with one player.
Replay: 4/10
Why da hell do people replay beat-em-ups? There's no secrets, no difference between games, nothing is really special your second time around. I guess you might wanna play with a different character.
Overall: 6.8 = 7
It's is a really cool game if you are a nice big brother or have a nice big brother. If you are alone with nobody to play it with, then be prepared for a good game....fow a little while....
