Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Review by TrueGamer104
"Alone in the Dark....Yup, you sure are!"
Introduction-I had first come across this game in a playstation magazine and it was on the demo CD. Well lucky me buys the book and this is how I first came across Alone in the Dark. I honestly for no particular reason figured the game was going to be bad, boy was I wrong. I must have played the demo over and over and over again until I basically mastered it perfectly and yet I still had an urge to play it. I knew right then and there I had to buy the game no matter what! This game is uniquely original and quite scary. It had me literally jumping at a few points in the game. If there are any gamers out there that are fans of the survival/horror type of games, you need this in your collection...seriously.
Gameplay 10/10-I just loved every second of this game. And not to mention you can play as Edward Carnby or Aline Cedrac in two different scenarios. This is one survival/horror game that dishes out lots of excitement along the way as well. There is not one point in this game where it gets boring, the story progresses's well and the boss battles are really intense. The only difference I noticed is if you ever have played the demo of this game, the game is a hell of a lot harder. The controls were really smooth and easily re-mapped. The controls for one did not take me to long to get used too.
Story 10/10-You are Detective Edward Carnby, a man who soon discovers that his best friend Charles Fiske is found dead on the mysterious and dangerous Shadow Island. Not to give to much of the story away, this is the main basis and your reason for going to Shadow Island to investigate this strange happening.
Graphics/Sounds 10/10-I will start with the sounds first because I found them most impressive. The music in this game will straight up send chills down your spine. It has sort of a calm yet disturbing beat to it. The sound of the wind when you are outside and the demonic creatures will make you cringe. The graphics in this game are just plain gorgeous. The detail with the flash lighting was incredibly done fantastic. Just one thing...you have a flashlight in this game, just make sure you use it;-)
Playtime/Replayability 10/10-I doubt very much that you will play through this game once and never touch it again. This game has great replayability for the fact that you can choose between 2 characters. And also at the fact that you will want to play through this game again regardless. This game is fairly long. You will definitely dust off your ol'ps1 and bust this incredible game into it.
Final Recommendation-I recommend that you buy this game if you are into the survival/horror series. This game is sure to scare the pants off you and remember to play it with the lights out and the volume turned up for a full pulse pounding adventure. Make sure you take your time with this game because you will not want to miss a single detail...really.
