"Worms returns to the Playstation, in style!"

Many moon ago, a turn-based action game came to the Playstation. That game was Worms. At the time, Worms was one of my favorite games around. Then, when Worms Armageddon was released, I jumped for joy! Worms was back, it was bigger, better and HARDER! As the title might suggest, this game entails worms blowing the heck out of each other with huge weapons, which is very fun.

Graphics 6.5/10

Okay, the graphics are not over impressive but do not hamper game play in any way. They are very cartoon-like but still manage to look ok. There are a few videos that are done very nicely. The menus are done well also, the colors manage to stand out and look nice and blocky without being too gaudy.

Game play 8/10

Great! Despite the simplistic appearance of Worms Armageddon, it is incredibly playable. There is a great variety of weapons choose from. The multitude of weapons enhances the games playability considerably. Weapons have to be chosen wisely, a bazooka shot may not reach your adversary due to the wind factor and shotguns are incredibly inaccurate over a distance.

Life span 9/10

There is the ordinary, good old death match, an elimination mode, in which 4 worms take on progressively harder opposition. There is a training mode, which can be frustrating at times, but pays off in other game modes. Finally, there is a mission mode, in which you command a worm (or some worms) to victory in scenarios ranging from kill the opposition to escape from the island. These scenarios get a lot tougher later on in the game. To have a team of worms with a coveted 100% accolade will take a while. The death matches can be very fun and addictive. Multiplayer matches on worms are also fun, sometimes AI just does not cut it, but human controlled or AI controlled, this game is excellent for all-out fun. All parts of this game are frustrating though at times, if a game frustrates you, but you play it again an hour later to get revenge, then it’s a great game.

Sound 6/10

Again, the effects on the weapons and things are not jaw-dropping, but they get the job done. This game doesn’t exactly achieve atmospheric greatness, but it’s not supposed to, it’s just supposed to be fun. You can change the voices and grunts of your worms, anything from, Russian to Romanian. All these accents that the worms can have are very amusing.

Replayability 2/10

Once you have done everything there is to do in Worms Armageddon, you won’t want to do it all over again. Not for a while at least. Its long life span should keep you entertained long enough to get your moneys worth twice over.

Final Score 8/10

A great game for its time, despite looking dated by today’s standards it still manages to fulfill.
