Devil Dice
Review by Sitorimon
"A Devilish Challenge You Will Love"
“Devil Dice” is one of the most original puzzle games on the PlayStation and can easily compete with the best puzzlers around to date.
Like all great puzzlers, the premise is simple. You are a little devil that gets to walk around on dice-filled platforms. All you have to do is group up the dice with a correlation of number of spots and number of dice. For example, if you group up four dice with the 4 spots side facing upwards, then they sink. To get rid of any single sided dice, just roll them into the sinking dice, and that gets rid of all the one spot dice. Sinking dice = lots of points = happy little devils.
After getting used to how the game works, you’ll soon work out some of the tricks of the trade, and with the controls being simple but effective, you’ll never be able to blame the controller for your mistake.
“Devil Dice” has several modes. For the single player mode, there are 100 puzzles to be solved, which pitch you into situations where you must sink the dice in a limited amount of moves. The learning curve starts off gentle and then gets steep fairly quickly after the first 20. All kinds of new types of dice are introduced such as Ice Dice’s that if pushed, will continue to slide until they hit another dice. Iron Dice are dice you cannot move. All these add more thought to your actions, and will keep your brain churning for hours.
If you have a friend with you, the battle mode is a fast and frantic rush to get a pre-set combination of dice spots. If you make a chain of three spot dices, then you get the three spot award…but you’ll need to grab one, two and six spots before winning, and as soon as your opponent gets a three spot chain…he snatches the award back from you! It’s frustrating yes, but insanely addictive.
For those of you that are blessed with a multi-tap, hours and hours of fun awaits for you. Up to 5 players can compete in the Survivor mode. Depending on how many combos’s and chains you make, the dice points take health from the other players. The most successful devil is left standing at the end.
“Devil Dice” is an absolute gem. Once you’ve got your head around what your meant to achieve, you can only go onwards and upwards with this game. It possesses the one quality that all puzzlers need to be classed as “great games” – its tremendously addictive. Give it a chance and submerse yourself in “Devil Dice”.
