Jumping Flash!
Review by Mike Shaffer
"In my opinion, this is one of the best video games ever made!"
The year was 1995. Sony Playstation was the big new system to have. I wasn't really thrilled by most of the games on the system at the time, but there was one game that I thought really stood out: Jumping Flash!
Story: 7/10
The evil Baron Aloha has ripped out portions of the planet in an attempt to turn it into a private retreat for himself. Universal City Hall sends out Robbit, a robotic rabbit, to stop Aloha! Alright, so it may not be the best story ever, but it works.
Graphics: 8/10
For its time, the graphics are pretty good, but there were definitely better-looking games when this came out. The graphics are mostly bright and cartoon-ish, and there are some nice FMV sequences in between each world.
Gameplay: 10/10
Now here's where the game stands out! They don't call this game ''Jumping Flash!'' for nothing, as you can jump up to 3 times at once! Each level has layers upon layers of platforms and stuff to explore. The game plays in a 1st-person view, which comes handy when you want to see everything from high above. There are 6 worlds each with 3 levels in them, plus there are bonus stages as well. You can kill the enemies by shooting lasers at them or jumping on them, and you can also get other weapons to use such as cherry bombs and twisters. Pure fun!
Sound: 9/10
The music and sound effects in this game are great. The cartoon-like sounds fit well in the game, and the background music is excellent. There are some forgettable songs, but there are also songs that will stay in your head long after you're done playing.
Replayability: 9/10
There's more to the game once you've beaten it, but I won't give anything away. Also, there is a time attack mode where you can try and see how fast you can clear a certain level, which is fun. Also, since some of the levels are so big, you'll want to play them again just to explore everything. The only real downside is that this game is kind of short, but it's still very fun to play, even after you've done everything.
Final Recommendation:
If you own a Playstation or Playstation 2, then I strongly recommend that you buy this game. It may not have mind-blowing graphics or a completely well thought-out and in-depth story, but the amazing gameplay is enough to make this one of my favorite video games of all time.
