Resident Evil: Director's Cut
Review by SpacePirate
"A true Directors Cut!"
Resident Evil was an awesome game. With scary atmosphere, good controls, and excellent gameplay. Resident Evil: DC is an even better game. If you think off it, this game is six games in one.
Graphics
The graphics are great for a Playstation game. The enviroments are detailed and clean. There are cool places that are good looking like the lab. The characters are nice looking. And there are new outfits that look nice. The graphics are clean and detailed.
Sound
Okay, it's a Survival Horror, it's gonna have good sound effects and music. There are good sounds like gun shots, footsteps, moans, etc. The music is just plain disturbing, and eery, and I mean that in a good way. They even have Moonlight Sonata, and no, I'm not joking. The only thing I have against the sound portion, are the things that the characters say. I mean, ''We almost had a Jill sandwhich there'', what the heck is that? It is very sad indeed. That is the only thing I have against the sound. Besides that, the eery music and weird sounds give this game great sound.
Controls
The control is fine. Basicly, you have the walk buttons, and the shooting buttons. But they are formed differently than regular games. You have a shoot button but you have to use the aim button to use it. Otherwise, it's the action button. And for walking and running, you have to face the direction your going in and then push up. And you have to push a button to run. Otherwise, just pushing up will make you walk. But this is a fine layout. It works. That is what the controls are like and they work fine.
Difficulty
The beuty of this game is that there are three different games and each one has it's own difficulty. The Beginner mode is the easy game. The Original is the medium game. And the Director's Cut game is the hard mode. There are also different difficulty levels with the two characters. Jill has an easier game because she can hold more items and she has the lock pick. Chris's game is harder because you can not carry as many items as Jill and you don not have a lock pick so you have to find more keys. That is how the difficulty is layed out. So, there is a wide range of difficulty, which is good.
Storyline
There have been mysteries murders happening in Raccoon City. People have been eaten. S.T.A.R.S. sent in their Bravo team to Raccoon Forest to investigate. Bravo team crashed and they haven't heard from them. So, S.T.A.R.S. sent in their Alpha team to investigate. Alpha team landed but were attacked by dogs...zombie dogs! The Alpha teams pilot left without the Alpha team. Alpha team ran and found a mansion. They went in and the rest is the game. You try to find clues and all this stuff happens. Trust me, you will want to see what happens.
Gameplay
This is were the game really shines. With three game modes and technicly, 6 full games, the game is very fun. Basicly, you go around, kill zombies, find weapons and keys, complete puzzles, and try to survive. It is a very simple concept but it works. The puzzles are great, the map is large, the weapons are cool, and the characters are cool. Some of the puzzles are real mind bending. And the cool thing is this. Say you play the beginner game. There are less enemies, you don't get as damaged from an enemy and the enemies aren't that hard. Then let's say you play the original game. More enemies, less ammo, harder enemies, different stuff happens, and the items are in different places. Then, you play the Director's Cut game. Hard enemies, different things happen, different item locations, more enemies, and not that much ammo. That is how cool this game is.
And a cool thing about this game is that you have an inventory that only holds 6(Chris) or 8(Jill) items. So you have to have a balance. You have keys, weapons, ammo, ink ribbon(to save) and other types of items. So, you got to know what your doing. And this game is scary. I mean, zombies coming out of closets, dogs jumping out of windows, giant spiders, guys with hearts on the outside. Pretty cool, eh? This game is awesome. No doubt that this game is one of the best games ever.
Pros
-Scary atmosphere
-Six full games
-Nice graphics
-Cool storyline
-Good controls
-Many difficulty levels
Cons
-Cheesy voice acting
That is it. Resident Evil is a great series, and in my opinion, this is the best one. Pick it up, by all means. And if you don't have a PlaySation 1 or 2, then get the remake for Gamecube. I give Resident Evil: Directors Cut Dual Shock a perfect 10 out of 10!
