Vandal Hearts II
Review by PContaminator
"Best tactics game since FF Tactics."
This is one of the most promising games I have played so far this year (2000). Kanami has been releasing top quality titles recently...Suikoden II then Vandal Hearts II. The graphics aren't any thing new but nothing bad either. The music also is really nothing to jump up and down about but it won't drive you away from this title. The story as well is a bit overused but the way this one flows along it is quite nice. The only thing that really makes this title excel is its really addictive gameplay... Any fan of tactics game should make it a mission to play this.
Graphics 8/10- As far as the map and backgrounds are concirned, they are identicle to FF Tactics. The character graphics and animations though are not as well done. If more effort whent into this the game would have gotten a better score.
Control/Gameplay 10/10- The game play is dinomite, alot like FF Tactics except enemies move at the same time you do making it a little harder to position yourself for a hit. The controls as well are flawless.
Sound/Music 7/10- The music is what you expect to hear from most RPGs on the Playstation. The Medievil tunes are your average music quality.
Story 8/10- The story is pretty cool but overused. The game starts off with your average uprising of Peasants against the evil nobles and it erupts into a war.
Replay 5/10- The game is fun but still its really only a once or twice through really.
Overall 9/10- The game will not awe you with its mediocre music or its overused story but its great gameplay makes the game an overall gem. Those of you out there who like FF tactics like gameplay but need a new title to sink your teeth into, go for Vandal Hearts II.
