Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
Review by Vesperas
"The Gecko has lef...err...let me down."
First let me tell you what Gex is all about. Gex: Enter the Gecko is a 3D adventure, which stars Gex, a wise aleck gecko, as its hero. Let me break it down for you.
Game play: The game play is pretty toned from the last game. First you are a gecko. Gex, like a gecko, can climb walls, extend his tongue to eat goodies, and swack things with his tale. This game is good to say at least if you like a decent adventure, because this game has it all... The jumps, the power ups, and the bosses. But then the game took a turn from the last game. It seemed that jokes were more important then original levels. The themes have been done to hell. Everything is more bland than every and you now have your third installment of a cartoon and horror channel... In this game, you still collect remotes (only this time it's only one kind instead of 3), The boss are not any fun anymore either. All and all this game would of been half way decent if it was out before Gex 2. Below Average
Challenge: This game is still hard at least, to get to the last set of level is easy, but then the hardness gets pumped up through the roof. If you like a game that tests your gaming ability, mastering Gex 3 is for you. Collecting 100 flies in some levels is a very hard task. But the game is harder since jumping still is not the greatest. The boss are easy as hell, an you will probably kill most of them on your first try. Great
Control: The control... The control is good except two parts. One part is its really bad jumping areas. The other is its slow camera that eats the game away...That's right, this has not of changed from the last one. Below Average
Story: The story in this game is not the best to say at least. It starts out as Gex getting thrown into a TV, again, and he must save himself, again. You must go around the media net work while fighting enemies and finding remote controls, again. Your main enemy is a robotic fly, and you must find him, again. Because the game has not of really changed, it is nothing new, again!. They did however hired a bay watch girl to play a part, which was a nice gimmick. Below Average
Graphics: The graphics are a bit of a let down this time around. The back grounds fit the theme really great, however all the enemies are goofie... Big hands, head, and just weird. They should of just kept it like Gex 2. Below Average
Audio: The music in this game usually fits the levels good but is still a tad bad if you ask me. Gex talks and makes remarks for almost everything you do. He is played by Dana Gould (a comedian) and is pretty funny. The effects are ok for the most part. OK
Replayability: Their literally is none in this game... There's is just no need to play again, and without another difficulty setting you will not really get tempted to play again... But since you will have to play the game longer to get a couple secret levels and a better ending it is not as bad as the first. Lacking
If I were you I would get Gex 2 instead, but you probably would want to buy this, because it's dirt cheap now.
I give this game a five out of ten mainly because it took most of the cool stuff and turned it all childish. Several times I played this I thought to myself...''Why am I playing this, when I know the ending?''
