Chrono Trigger
Review by Payzmaykr
"Please don't hesitate to get this game."
Out of the hundreds of games that I have played in my day, some of them seem to stick out from the crowd and shine a glorious glow. What makes these games what they are? A number of things, to be honest. A perfect blend of the following things is sure to make a perfect game. Chrono Trigger exceeded them all, so if you will, please divert your eyes..... down.
Music: 10/10
The music in a game is a blessing, I would say. If a game didn't have background music or didn't have any sounds period, then it would most likely suck. If, for example, a game had terrible sounds, then it would make it bad, but it still wouldn't be as bad as one that completely skipped out on music. In this case, the music was one of the strongest points of the game. I really wish that Square would make the sounds this good in every game, but not, the budget money is mainly spent of graphics..... sad.
When you listen to the background sounds of Chrono Trigger, they really sort of... help you adapt to the type of place that you are. For example, if you are in a Jurassic place, it will play the kind of music which we think cavemen played. Overall, the music is a great point of the game.
Graphics: 10/10
These are the kind of graphics that I really like. It is not the modern eye candy which you may find in Final Fantasy X or such games, but it is more of an old-school texture of art. The graphics (normally) are 2-D, which I (and many others) would prefer. One thing in the graphics that would appeal to today's youth is the cut-scenes. That is where it shows a special scene made entirely of Anime. The artists of Dragon Ball Z (popular anime) were the people who made this possible.
Due to many compromising factors of the art in this game, which turns out to please any player, everyone would like it.
Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay in this game is at its best. It is not a regular RPG-style fighting system. First off, there are no random battles. You can fight enemy battles, but you have to actually look for them. Unlike a normal RPG, you can see the enemy characters on the screen, and when you want to fight them, you just walk up to them. A lot of the time, they will chase after you even when you don't want to fight them.
Once you are in a battle, there are some special things to do. You can attack like normal, defend, use items, (yes, all like normal) but one thing that makes it special is the 'Tech' moves. They are like magic, except you can join with a teammate and do a 'Dual Tech' or a 'Triple Tech'. I think it certainly is a lot of fun.
Buy/Rent: YES
This is a game that you are definitely are going to want to check out if you were impressed by some of the features that I mentioned above. If a friend has this game, it would be a lot easier just to borrow it from him/her, because if you are going to rent it, it costs money. If you have done more research on the game, and feel that it is the right one for you, then buy it. Chrono Trigger was not meant for individual purchase, so you have to but Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4 in a combination called ''Final Fantasy Chronics''.
Overview
Every time I have played through this game, I have had a lot of fun with all of the endless side-quests and other extras that are included, and while I play it now, it still hasn't lost the touch of fun that it always had. I would recommend it to almost any RPG fan. I hope that you enjoy the game as much as I did.
